[SOLVED] Ethernet controller driver problem
First posting.
I re-installed XP Home on a Dell Dimension 4550 . I had uninstalled the OS due to slow performance and very likely infestation with spyware. I could not establish an internet connection and the device manager had a yellow ? next to the ethernet controller and the driver wasn't present. I have tried to install several drivers from the Dell and Microsoft sites with no success. The initial specs on the computer indicated it came with an Intel Pro 100M PCI NIC card. Any help would be appreciated. |

Hi Nicholas,
Things were going great with my computer until Microsoft automatically downloaded 81 XP updates at once. When I rebooted I got a blue screen with the following message: problem by following file nv4_disp The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. I found a restore point, reinstalled the ethernet driver and am back in business. However, at this point I am uncertain how to deal with XP Microsoft updates. My apologies for sending this note directly to you. I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread but it seems this is still a driver issue. Matt |
