Video Card Drivers... Annoying problem.

Hello my trusted tech support forum friends! I love you all to death! I must ask you for assistance yet again!

Well, I'm going to assume at this moment in time that it's my video card that's making these problems come about... What's the problem then you ask?

Well, when I start up my Steam, and then try to get into CounterStrike source... Uh oh! I get a message that says my Video Card's drivers aren't up to date!

Sooo I go into ATI's website... And I notice... "Um... Wait... Why does Windows 2000 not have drivers for ATI Radeon X1950 Pro?! Why is it only in Windows XP!?

So this leads me to this question... Are video cards now only compatable with certain operating systems?! Cause if that's the case, it's kinda stupid.

Is there any way to fix this error? I can't find the right drivers for an ATI Radeon X1950 for Windows 2000... I've downloaded several, just to see if it would work, but they all say I have missing components (Meaning... I don't have the right hardware or software for my video card).

Sooo, what makes me think that this issue really is something with my video card?... Well... My CS:S lags... A lot... Sometimes...
Also, a lot of textures in the game are kinda blah-ish...

Any ideas on what I should do?

When you say CS:S lags, in what way? Is your ping high 100-150 or are your FPS lower than 30.. It could also be that you dont have enough RAM in your system..
Please post your system specs (as much detail)..

Re: Video Card Drivers... Annoying problem.

When I say CS:S lags, I mean everyone moves like THEY are lagging, when we *all* have low ping. I forgot how to check FPS -.-

I have 2 gigs of 800mhz ram...

Mobo: Gigabyte 965P-S3
CPU: Intel E6600 Dual Core
Video card: ATI Radeon x1950 Pro 256mb
Ram: 2 gigs 800mhz corsair
OS: WIndows 2000 Pro

Anything else? :P

Re: Video Card Drivers... Annoying problem.

Sounds to me more like a connection issue, even if you have low ping lag can sometimes occur. eg. Packet loss (especially over a wireless network), high internet traffic, ports not forwarded.
How do you connect to the internet please list all hardware (router, modem Name and model) you use.

Re: Video Card Drivers... Annoying problem.

CS:S has never had this problem before I got my new computer... (My current one..) As far as I know, I've NEVER needed to forward ports to play smoothly on CS:S and games involved with steam...

I connect through Charter Digital Cable.

Router: Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL with 4-Port Switch. Model: BEFSR41

Modem: (Scientific Atlanta, Webstar, I have no way of figuring out the rest -.- we just use what they gave us like... 6 years ago or w/e -.- we need a new one -.-)

I still think my video drivers need an update though... and I can't find the right ones. I have 6.14 of the drivers, and on the website... They're all either 7.7 or 6.2...

Re: Video Card Drivers... Annoying problem.

-------- The issue was solved.

I was getting way too much choke.

The server wasn't able to send me any information because of my rates in console and the like... connection wasn't the problem, nor was my video card. It was the game itself.

That error is still bugging me though.
