[resolved]2 Hardware updates, dunno if needed?
Think i may have posted this question before but never gave the correct info,
I have these 2 updates and not sure i f i need them...Due to me upgrading some things on my cpu. 1) Driver update for Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem 2) VIA - Networking - VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter They are in my custom options under hardware, but heres the deal. #1 I have no clue what this is? Even when searching for info. I have an agp card, but think i use pci for somethings? i dunno? Do i need this? I had an integrated chip, but have since then upgraded to 7600gt agp and disabled my integrated. So will #2 help me ? Or is it totally useless if i am not using the integrated chip. I think i still use Via networking for somethings ? I dunno? I do play a game called enemy territory, which i would like to get the best performance out of my cpu but not download unnecessary updates. Thanks for your time, =) |

Re: 2 Hardware updates, dunno if needed?
Those have nothing to do with your video drivers. They're what they say they are. The first one is for a modem, and the other is an update for your integrated ethernet port. Neither will effect gameplay.

Re: 2 Hardware updates, dunno if needed?
okay, i see i have asked this before but ended up losing it, probably due to no reply... custom updates, i think are important, dunno?
So what is this exactly as its an update to my modem, should have fixes??? And this integrated port update, i dont understand how this isnt important or affect my gaming, on either update? Unless cuz i disabled that part of it,Thanks again for your time. Last edited by grassi; 05-21-2007 at 06:56 PM. |

Re: 2 Hardware updates, dunno if needed?
Updates can mean several things, from fixing a major issue on a broad range of issues, to a general update to accomodate new technology or new protocalls. Heck, some updates are to fix issues that you've never encountered. Generally you don't need to update your computer if it's not having issues. If it aint broke don't fix it type of thing. You can update if you want, but they still won't effect gameplay.
