"generic mass" driver in use issue
Hi,
I recently aquired a problem since around the start of 2007 with my USB ports. When unplugging my ipod, the computer refuses to disconnect it saying that "the generic mass driver is in use", and a program is using the ipod still. I can only disconnect the ipod if I simply unplug it without the disconnection or if I shut the computer down. By this point, I've closed out itunes, and there's nothing connected to the ipod. I've switched USB ports to see if it was just the one with a problem, I've done the disconnection/reconnection through the control panel, and I still get this error message. My CD driver is also beginning to not eject disks properly, and sometimes turns into a blue screen with a "internal error" and the computer shuts down. I had a virus a few months ago on my computer and ran numerous cleaners to make sure it was gone both in safe mode and normal mode. No scanner has brought up traces of it since, and I honestly cannot remember if the problems with my ports began before or after this virus. I'm currently running a computer that is Windows XP, it was purchased in Dec 2004 and this is the first real problem I've ever experienced. I'm just completely baffled what to do. Thanks for any help that is offered T_T |

Re: "generic mass" driver in use issue
Often times viruses will replace or damage Windows files.
Try this. Go to start, run and type sfc /scannow and click ok. This will scan the Windows files and look for missing and damaged ones. You will need your Windows cd in the drive when you do this. It does not tell you anything during this scan. After it finishes, reboot and see if that fixes the problem.
