dvd/cd writer

help, my dvd/cd writer doesn't work. at first it was just the dvd part now it's both, it won't even as much as acknowledge that there is a disc inserted

Check list:

Have you tried another cable?

Are the jumpers set correctly?

Any red or yellow marks in the Device Manager?

Have you loaded the drivers that came with the disk drive?

Are the Chipset drivers loaded for your motherboard?

Please list specs so we know what motherboard you have and what brand name and model of CD/DVD you have.

wow, ok, where do i find this information, as far as everything being connected and drivers installed it all came with the pc already installed and stuff

Did you get any disks with the computer that might have drivers on it? We would have to know the brand name and model of the drive to get drivers for the thing. That should be listed on the top or side of the drive if you don't have any info.
