[resolved]DVD-rom unplugged?
I am running Windows 2000 Professional. While just going to a normal web page, a box popped up saying that a device had became unplugged suddenly, noting it was this " _NEC DV-5700A ". Question is: how would this go about becoming unplugged by itself? How can I plug it back up, if it did?
Thanks so much for any help. |

Re: DVD-rom unplugged?
If it truly did become unplugged (i've never seen an optical drive report it was unplugged) you'd have to pop open the case and check your connections and cables.
Turn off the computer, unplug anything in the back, including the power cord. Once you've got the side panel off, touch a bare metal part of the chassis to discharge any static electricity that's bulit up. Then, inspect the connections on the optical drive (should be on top, in the front of the case, it'll be a large flat ribbon cable) for tightness. If they're not tight, just put it back on snugly. It's not uncommon for cables to wiggle themselves loose over time. The constant heating and cooling of metal parts causes them to expand and contract ever so slightly. Given enough time, they'll become loose. Any luck ?
