[resolved]Help with finding a driver soundmax

Hi!

I'm having the exact same problem, exact same motherboard (P4S800). The sound was previously working on this old box while I was running Linux, and even before that when I think it was running XP.

I'm in Australia, and it takes a huge amount of time to download the files from the Asus site, I have 1.5mb connection, yet when I download from the Asus site, it goes at 6kb/s! The file is around 2.5mb. When it finally finishes, I unzip it, and go to the folder. There are two, SE and W2K_XP. In the W2K_XP folder, is the following:

Clicking on install does nothing. The SE folder looks like so:

Clicking on inst16 brings up the error messages that chris_irwin89 was talking about:

Heaps more come up afterwards too, that's only the first three. I tried to download the older SoundMax drivers from Asus (18mb) but I kept losing connection from the crappy Asus server.

Re: Help with finding a driver soundmax

It's a very old box, I've since lost any CD's that might have come with it.

Re: Help with finding a driver soundmax

Well, I haven't tried that driver yet, because it's going just as slow as when I downloaded from Asus. In the mean time though, I following these instructions that I found in the topic similar to this one:

Quote:
Press Start > Settings > Control panel > Add hardware > Click next - Windows should be able to find your sound device > Choose install from a list or a specific location > browse to the directory where you saved the downloaded XP driver > click Next (or yes, I can't remember). When the installation has finished - reboot the computer.
And they worked! Thanks for all the help!
