Hi, I'm new as I'm sure you know. Not only new to the forum, but new in the way of finding solutions to virus and spyware issues, and other PC issues. I told ev1 how I made it to this forum in my profile, which as yet I haven't located. I can't afford more scan engines ! I've used the free ones and pitstop scanned and I copied the results. I know to get the graphics card drivers at ATI, the Printer driver updates at Lexmark. I assume I can search for the other drivers that the results listed, but where and how do I go about it?

I knew to look at Co. sites for device drivers, but I was questioning some of these other drivers the scan said should be updated:
Intel ATA/ATAPI 82801EB Ultra Storage controllers, Adapter: Intel Pro/100 VE Network Connection, and Universal Serial Bus Control; Intel 82801EB USB Univ. Host Controller 24DE, Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller, Intel 82801E USB 24D7, " " " 24D4, & " " " 24D2. These seven items needed updated drivers if I can believe the results of the scan and if I wrote them down correctly. Would they all be available at Intel? If so, I will be working on gathering the driver updates, but I wasn't real sure about these items. Last edited by deloby; 12-25-2006 at 08:35 PM. |

Scan claims bad drivers
I've searched for drivers and found Lexmark & Radeon 9200 driver update, and the Catalyst control(3) for 9800 serices, then rescanned wiwth pitstop driver scan. These drivers found did not resolve the issue. It only resolved the Intel(r) Pro/100 Network connecion "bad" driver.
The update driver for 9200 and the Catalyst Control updated driver didn't reduce the results of the driver scan. Where would I look for USB Control update drivers? I turned every page searching at Intel. Also, Intel ATAA/ATAPI82801EB Ultra Storage controller driver for updatin. As for USB, I need Intel 82801EB....24DE, Intel 82801E Usb 24D7,Intel... 24D4, & Intel...24D2, and the Std. Enhanced PCI to USB Hot Controller(NO brand name mentioned) I forgot to mention, I overlooked another problem, SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio is in need of an updated driver. I searching now for this. I've searched for driver update for download and can't find these. Last edited by deloby; 12-26-2006 at 12:05 AM. Reason: for got to list missed item from scan |

And I will find that informations in System info? Thank you. I have other problems, ATI Radeon Updated drivers didn't change the test results. Then the PC MightyMax appeared out of nowhere, literally. I've never been to the site, and still know nothing about it. Have registered at that forum, but can't post? Went to email and there was no email to verify? I'm so confused and not making any progress toward optimizing this pc, and setting up protections that will keep infections from reoccuring. Then I have to tackle my own personal pc, when my daughters is safe for her to use. If I had understood how frustrating it was to resolved issues of this kind, maybe I would have taken more studies in this area. What is it that I still don't understand abou this/these forums.Shouldn't there have been a verifications email with a link for verifying??

it sounds more like one of those scam popups to get you to by their software
if there are no problems with the computer running check for an infection follow this http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=15968

Ready for Safe Mode
Step by Step I've followed Hijack this article. Questions, hope I did it right, the download of VX2 and the second VX2 and def's: I installed the first VX2 Cleaner, then installed the second one, then unzipped def's. I hope that was right. I also installed spybot, and hijackthis, and CWshredder. At this time I'm checking MS Updates and running the second scan engine. So I believe I am ready to go to safe mode. But as for SP2, it is already installed, so if every thing is cleaned when I finish all of this, what should I do next? Uninstall SP2 and re-install it, or just leave it installed because I know the computer is clean? Thank you much, I will let you know how it turns out. BTW about PCmightymax v9, although I don't know where it came from nor how it got in the add and remove programs, I tried to remove it and got an error, then I tried to change/as in modify, to see if I could have it uninstall with that function, and it Installed. When I realized it was installing I let it go, and when it finished I uninstalled it without any problems. That explains the error message, it was told to uninstall something that had not yet been installed.{error 1721: There is a problem with the Windows Installer package. A program required for install to complete could not be run. Contact support personnel or the package vender. button:ok, then another warning after clicking the ok: Fatal Error during Installation: and another OK} FYI Viewpoint Media Player was the only thing from the list that I had to uninstall. AND from the Event Viewer the System has had errors and Warnings at least since 12-19-06, and trouble in Applications since10-14-06. That is as far back as the logs went.

May not have took the correct actions with Hijackthis, don't know
I've done everything on that list. I had to come back and get AdAware, somehow I missed that program. It found three bad things, couldn't tell you what, one was a chg'd registry key, then two were associated with Tarma, I think is how it was spelled, or either Tamra. Nothing else was found by any of the other programs. Hijackthis listed sites I visit regularly, such as Trendmicro, Pogo, and Lexmark. I checked familiar sites and hit the Ignore these button. Was that right? The other things left after I cleared all I knew was associated with me then hit the fix and clean button. Was that right?
Now what do I do to keep the PC this way? Trendmicro CWShredder and PCcillin have both been on my personal computer. I just purchased this viao for my daughter from a frd. Thanks for all your help, I just noticed you have told me the same thing several times. I'm sorry you had to keep repeating yourself. I've just been tired and don't understand these forum things whatso ever. I tried to ask for help and email came back, I tried to post elsewhere and have no access or something like that. I'm not sure How I made my way to here, to tell the truth. |

Concerning the cleaning:
I followed the article all the way through, but still for a while now the pointer has been freezing/responding with a tone at each click until eventually it completes whatever action it's been directed to do and clearups, thus becoming effective again. I've thought it was because of infections, do you think? Or is it an optimizing (slow to respond) problem with the pc? And what area of the forum should I address with this issue with for help?
I wanted to thank you for all your help and understanding that I've had no training in this area. And I have another PC with problems too, so like Arnold would say "I'll BE Back!" Thanks Again! Last edited by deloby; 12-27-2006 at 02:10 PM. |
