So here's the the jist.. I was up and playing WoW this morning, then my dad got on my computer.. and nothing is working. I'm not exactly sure what's wrong, but it SEEMS like a display driver problem.
Symptoms include: * Things are either taking a really long time to load, or not loading at all. * I play ROM based MUDs (multi user dungeons) They're simple text RPG's and you can usually run them on the shittiest dial-up connection ever. But this computer, which is running a cable modem, won't load this game properly. Instead of the normal smooth scroll of text, it sticks and scrolls up piece by piece ( I suppose this problem would be easier understood if you have ever played, or seen a MUD being played.) * None of my graphic games will launch, WoW won't even go into the log-in screen, it just has a "fatal exception" error (123). And it is pretty much the same with America's Army, except that error seems to have something to do with my 3D graphics card. * Webpages won't load and will time out eventually (although I haven't had any trouble with that again) At first, I was sure it had something to do with my display driver, I use Radeon 9250. There's another display driver in my Driver Adapters list that's not radeon, so I figured that maybe it was defaulting to that driver, and that was what was ******* me up. So I uninstalled if from add/remove, and it just made everything a lot worse. And upon restart, it just came back anyway through 'found new hardware'. So, in summary, I can't play WoW, I can't play my MUD's, I can BARELY check my gaming forums. And I'm a super-nerd, so this is a big problem. Help! |

Try reinstalling WoW first off.

Ugh, I was really hoping there was another solution, the patches for WoW take hours. And I don't think reinstalling would help, as it's not really a problem with WoW, it's a problem with my computer that's affecting WoW, which is affecting my mental stability. :/

You are correct in suspecting other causes but they, too, could take a fair amount of time to track down. Things to try:

That's really jumping the gun... You may just be putting more work ahead of yourself. If you do, you'll have to search for and install drivers and install all of the programs and games you had before.
You are likely having a driver issue. Simply uninstall the driver you have installed through add/remove programs (and device manager if necessary) and download and install the new ones. They should install automatically. -Eddie
