Hi,
I wish I knew what you mean by on a purple CD, like what kind of driver you installed. Anyhow, for now, go to Start, Control Panel, Sysem, Hardware, Device Manager, then down to the USB area and open the area with the + sign. If there are any red or yellow marks, then right click and update those drivers. If there are none, then right click and select update drivers for each item under that area. Post back with questions/concern.

no yellow marks
everything looks good when i try to update it either hangs and searches for ages, or says it cannot do it. i will list the usbs i have Universal serial bus controllers: Generic USB Hub SIS7001PCI to USB Open Host Controller SIS7001PCI to USB Open Host Controller SIS7001PCI to USB Open Host Controller SIS PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller USB Root Hub USB Root Hub USB Root Hub USB Root Hub the purple cd says drivers and utilites storage usb 2.0 firewire before i added the driver on the purple cd SP2 recognized the usbs, but not USB 2.0, so i guess it was working better before i installed the driver because i could actually access the PSP or hard drives information and the only time it hangs when updating the driver is when i try do it on Generic USB Hub. The rest simply say they cannot be completed |

HI,
Can you uninstall the drivers from that CD through the Start, Control Panel, add or remove area? If we can do that, then maybe we can reintall and get them to work. Of, if that does not do it, then use the Restore option to set it up previous to the time you intalled those drivers. I am not saying we don't need drivers, but maybe we can find a better match. Tell me where you got those drivers from. Are they the motherboard disk drivers or some other ones?

Hi,
Click on each option in that area and click Search for Hardware changes and see if you get anything different. Oh, also wanted to ask you if you have the BIOS setup menu options for USB set to 2.0 enabled????? If not, you need to go in there and enable it.

OK i think the best way to solve this problem is to go back to where i started.
so i need to uninstall all the drivers on my usbs and re-install them (maybe with windows service pack 2?) so how can i set the drivers back to default so this new driver i put on, is no longer there. any ideas? steve |

Hi,
What I would try is uninstalling them and letting them reinstall and that alone might solve the problem. Is the disk you using as you described the motherboard disk or some other disk with USB drivers on it? Have you tried the Restore feature to before you installed those drivers? That might be a first step before you uninstall them.

hi, please give me details on the restore feature, is that the same as rollback?
also, i have a new masterplan. i think the problem lies in the "generic usb" driver, as thats what i updated with the purple cd, so if i could find windows original generic usb drive and reinstall it, that would work. is there any place generic usb driver is located in windows? or a site i can download it from? thanks |

Hi,
For system restore, go to Start, Help and Support, System Restore, pick a date and you can take it back to where it was. Just pick a restore point where you did not have those drivers installed. That will get rid of the driver that you loaded.

Hi,
Uninstall them and let it come back up and see what happens.

Hi,
Go here and verify if you have a driver issue: http://articles.techrepublic.com.com...ml?tag=nl.e064 Also, you have mentioned you thought it was simply a driver issue. >You can get rid of the new driver and go back to your old driver with the following method: (forgot I had not mentioned that - Is that a memory issue????) only kidding. >Start >Control Panel >System >Hardware >Device Manager >Universal Serial Bus Controllers (expand this with the + sign) >Right Click on the different USB Controller(s) >Select Properties >Driver Tab >Roll Back Driver That option will remove the old driver and put the original one back in. That would take care of the ones you loaded, but you would have to do it for each option under that heading. What can you lose????

Hi,
I would assume that they should be on (not positive, so try it both ways), if you want to know if the drivers are working. You also didn't mention where the disk came from when you loaded these drivers. Did it come with your motherboard?
