movie playing problems

hi, Trying to play movies with Vlc Player, mpeg movie, windows movie files. I know the files are ok as they work on my other comp. Guess i need some movie codecs or somthing, but dont want to go playing around just in case i mess somthing up. Thanks for your time,,,,, dojharris,,,,,
P.s they play the sound but no picture

Drag the video files into GSpot to see which codecs they need, then do a custom install of the K-Lite codec pack, selecting only the required codecs.

A custom rather than full install means there's less chance of conflicting codecs, as you're only installing the ones you need. GSpot will tell you which version of the codec to go for.
