Hello ...
Good morning! Just to provide as much information as possible ... this entire encounter stated when I updated the NVIDIA driver. I had Nvidia GeForce4 Ti4200, version dated 2006.06.01 and updated to driver - Forceware v93.71 is this the correct update. Anyways, this is where the problems started..alll though all was fine until the next morning when I started the computer up ... The very next morning yesterday ... upon start-up in the morning the ---system came up with the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH and had an error message: STOP: 0X0000008E ...etc...KERNEL_Mode_Exception_Not Handled. Not sure what to do, I unstalled the updated NVIDIA driver and when back to the original one that came with the computer dated 2003.07.28, letting the Wizard find it. HOWEVER, when I started the computer very first thing this morning I received another BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH with the following error message: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_Equal 0X000000D1 This all started when I updated the NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 driver. Not sure what to do, I went back to the original NVIDIA driver dated 2003.07.28, after I unstalled the NVIDIA update v93.71 dated 2006.10.22 (from their site), I had the Microsoft Wizard go out and search the NVIDIA drivers, I thought all was fine until this morning. Not being a computer expert .. let me ask you this, I unstalled the NVIDIA driver from the add/remove programs as the NVIDIA site sugggested, tunred off my anti-virus software and didn't know where to disable the accelarator? Could you please tell me the step-by-step instructions of what I need to do before downloading the NVIDIA drivers again and should I go back to the new update (is that the correct one - V93.71) or should I go back to the 2006.06.01 v91.31, what can I do to correct those errors??? Is is necessary to unistall the NVIDIA program from the add/remove section, as soon as I did this the computer restarted and came back with the new hardware detected so I just let it select it and it when back to the NVIDIA GeForce Ti4200 driver from 2003.07.28.??? I truly appreciate all your help in trying to resolve this issue. Countryhardball |

HI Doby,
I followed the step-by-step instructions (EXCELLENT) and downloaded the Nvidia driver version 84.21. When downloading it stated NOT Microsoft logo approved/digitally signed. That shouldn't be any problem correct? I won't know until tomorrow after the computer has been shut-down for an hour or more if I receive any error messages. Thats the odd thing, when this entire episode started with the Nvidia driver, I ONLY receive that Blue Screen of Death message, when I restart the computer in the morning and then all is fine the rest of the day...which leads me to this question... When finished with the computer at the end of the night, should I actually leave it up and running (the screen is in screen saver energy mode) or should I power the computer down entirely. I have high speed internet cable connection for my Internet provider. Your help is truly appreciated ...Countryhardball Countryhardball |

Don't worry about the digital signed thing that driver will work with XP.
I would think that waiting till morning is not actually triggering the problem but the complete shutdown of the computer and then the restart, this is somewhat different than choosing restart from the shutdown menu (warm boot). I know when installing drivers I have experienced problems when just restarting so I always completely shutdown and restart when installing them. Not shutting the computer off is not a real solution because it just masks the problem, I have another idea but lets wait and see what happens. Let me know |

Doby,
Good morning! I downloaded the Nvidia driver as stated yesterday and turned the computer on at 0510 this morning (Monday) so far I cross my fingers I did not get the Blue Screen of Death and/or error messages as yet, usually it has happened within the first 20 mins and its now 0541. Doby, the odd thing about this (all started with the Nvidia driver update to the 9 series, which you stated had known bugs), is after I would do a restart the computer would be fine. I wouldn't get the Blue Screen of Death until the next morning or if I had shut the computer down for at least an hour or longer. The restarts would work fine, does any of this make sense? I'm trying to be as detailed as possible. You have been GREAT actually reading "everything" I have stated on this problem. I will keep you posted and will get back with you when I return from work later today. You said you had a couple of other ideas...do you want to pass them on now ... or should we wait and see what happens?? I truly "appreciate" all your help and will donate once this issue has been resolved and I feel we are going in the right direction!! I thank-you and look forward to your reply.... |

Anyway, the other idea I had is to use http://drivercleaner.net/professional.php Sometimes but not always windows add/remove programs does not do a good job at removing drivers and leaves remnants of the old driver that conflict with the new one and drivercleaner removes these "remnants". So if you still have the problem or want to give the 93.71 another shot you could try it, it could help. Thank you for your kind words Countryhardball and let me know how its going |

Hi Doby,
The computer has been up and running since 0500 this morning. You are correct ... it is only during a cold boot after the attempted driver update was I receiving the blue screen with errors. A normal warm restart was no problem. Since I downloaded the Nvidia 84.71 version yesterday afternoon, all is well so far and even if I did a (warm) restart now, I know all would still work. I'm going to shut the computer off tonight around 11 or 12 like usual and will start it up in the morning ... crossing my fingers all works (like it has so far today)! The driver cleaner program seems like a very good tip, I have it bookmarked. I'm kind of scared to go back and try the version 93.71. With all the reasearch I'm been doing the last four days, I can't remember if you told me or I read it at one of the sites, there is bugs in the Nvidia 9 series drivers and was recommened to stay away from them for the time being. Thank-you for your great help ... I'll keep you posted the next couple of days and if all continues going well, I'll stay with the 84.21 driver and will be MORE than happy to donate to the site. You have been great!!! I see your from PA, I live in MD and work with quite a few people from PA!!! I'll keep you posted .... take care, Countryhardball |
