Problems with CD-RW drive

My CD burner, record now, at one time used to work just fine, then one day it just stopped working. My DVD drive works but when I put a disk in the CD-RW drive it won't even recognise that i've inserted a disk inside. It acts as if i've done nothing. It refuses to recognise disks and it refuses to burn CD's.

The burner came already installed, I tried reinstalling it and it still does the same thing, It won't read any disks in the drive and it won't burn at all. My DVD drive works but my CD-RW drive dosen't work.

perhaps I am a bit confused...let me read it over and restart...

1) It won't read a retail disk, it won't read ANY kind of disk for that matter. If I insert a disk into the CD-RW drive, the green light on the drive will blink as if it's going to read it but it dosen't, I have also learned that it dosen't even spin the disk, meaning it's not even attempting to read it.

2) I have an HP with windows XP and I have gotten in touch with technical support, they are the ones that had me uninstall and reinstall the drive and even after that it continues to not work

3) I looked under the device manager and it has the drive as working properly even though it isn't working at all.

4) Regarding the burner software, I don't know to much about what I can do about that, the CD-RW drive won't read a disk period

post 2 refers to uninstalling the burning software not the actual drive
burning software is i.e.
nero
roxio
sonic
post 4
can you see the drive listed in the bios
the bios is what you enter as the computer boots up usually by pressing the delete key.the right key will be listed on the bottom of one of the post screens
it will say press xxxx to enter the bios now

you have to press akey to enter the bios,if you press it to late you have reboot
it could be a number of different keys, but the right one will be listed on the bottom of one of your post screens or look in your manual
the most common one is the delete key
