It's not a driver issue, as Windows has the drivers. In the Device Manager, are the drives listed? If so, is there any symbol next to them, like a yellow exclamation point or something else? If they are not listed in the Device Manager, go to your BIOS to see if the devices are listed. Have you done anything inside your computer lately that may have caused the IDE cable to come loose from the motherboard? Check inside your case to see that all cables are connected firmly. If you have another cable, you could try it to see if the problem is with the cable. Post back with results, or if you need help going to the BIOS.

Hi T2024,
Further to dai's advice..... Is that a 40 wire ribbon that you have connected to the CD Drives? If it is, it would pay you to replace it with an 80 wire ribbon, because some CD Drives do not respond too well with 40 wire ribbons. Try dai's suggestion first; then, post back with the outcome.

First set a restore point, start>programs>acessories>system tools>systtem restore.
Follow the instructions to make a restore point, this will not affect your user data but simply gives you a point to restore back to if something goes wrong. Then go here http://www.geekstogo.com/modules.php?modid=5&action=show&id=15 And download cdgone patch and follow the instructions. This patch does edit the regestry for you and most times fixes the problem. If there is a problem you can use the restore point to restore back. If you don't want to edit the regestry I don't see how else you can get the cd drives to work other than a reinstall of the operating system but I would back up all user data, you should be doing this any way |

tap f8 as you are booting and you will find it on the options screen that comes up
check the computer is clean first if you think that you may be infected http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=15968
