No Internet After New Hard-Drive
I recently had a problem with my hard drive, and a friend switched it for me. We re-installed Windows XP on the hard-drive, and everything about that went well EXCEPT the internet. There was the yellow question mark next to the ethernet driver, and there are no drivers on the startup CD. I don't have the ability to download a driver from the internet, as my computer doesn't even make it that far. My friend is less baffled than I, but still clueless to the actual cause and subsequent solution. I am completely clueless when it comes to the technical side of computer operations. He suggested that there may be a problem with my motherboard. Does this sound familiar to anyone? And can anyone give me advice on how to fix it, tests to run, etc.? The technical info I have at this moment is:
motherboard: M/B D865GIGL (or M/B D865GLGL...I can't really tell as the computer case is kind of old. I got it from my friend, and it is a bit smudged). Sound 801985 LAN Intel Pro VGA Intel Graphic I can find out whatever else is needed. Please help as soon as possible! I am going nuts not having access to the internet in Korea! Especially because I have to go to a PC room and pay money per hour! Thanks Dave |

Greetings Lohmand, and Welcome to TSF!
It sounds as though you are missing the Motherboard Drivers. For us to give you a more accurate guide, we will need to know the exact make/model of your board, and whether you are running Windows® Xp Home or Professional. Please post back with this information.

Motherboards
I'll check on that...however, before I had switched hard drives, the internet was working fine. Here's the story:
One day two months ago, I was sitting around and decided to reboot my computer. Then, as I tried to turn it on, it didn't work. I was going to Italy for a month, so I didn't really mind. However, now that I'm back, I have been getting frustrated. So how would the motherboard have been effected? Would a problem with the hard drive carry over to the motherboard? Or would it have a reversed effect (motherboard affecting the hard drive)? thanks... Dave PS, where would I find the exact make and model? I Suppose this is good because I am learning something about computers...maybe. |
