DVD not working after formatting C drive

Hey guys.
A while ago I formatted my C: and since then the DVD-ROM hasn't worked. It's like it can't read anything, not even normal CD's. Do I need a driver or something? Hope you can help.
Best regards

Reinstalling the driver is the best thing to do first as it can solve the problem, use your system disc or the disc you got with your dvd rom and choose the right driver, If u do not havwe the disc, post the details of the model and number of your dvd rom so we can find you the driver.

Thanks for the reply.

Actually I just bought a DVD writer today (LITEON) and replaced my old DVD-ROM with it, but it doesn't work either, even after I installed the CD that came along with it. So it seems as if the PC is missing something to accept the DVD player/recorder. Any ideas?

MOBO: ASUS A8V
CPU: AMD64 3200+ (Socket939)
RAM: 1024MB PC3200
With regards to Wattage and clocks, I haven't done any changes to the defaults so I guess they're still at factory settings.
Hope this answers your questions. Thanks for helping.

The wattage is on the power supply unit, jus inside the pc, it will tell you the exact such as 500W, and what hardwared are you running?

@dai: I did, but perhaps I skipped something in the process. I'll take a look at it again and find out whether I missed something out.
@scottydont2841: Oh like that; I have a 450W power supply. What's hardwared?
The DVD writer spins the cookie and even opens it (very slowly!) but you cannot run any of the files and if you try, the PC simply freezes and has to be reset.

Greetings GEA, and Welcome to TSF!

Adding to dai's advice, when you reformat and reinstall your O/S; apart from the motherboard drivers, you will have to also update your Windows® installation; especially SP2 [if your CD does not have SP2 integrated in it] as well, by going to the Windows update site.
