Hi All,
I have a PIV HT 2.8GHz CPU on which I am using the stock fan cooler (which i must say is inadequate)..I have recently purchased a Cooler Master Vortex cooler which has 4 pins but my board (865GBF) has only 3 pins...the cooler runs only on default 1500rpm whereas the booklet of Coolermaster says it can go upto 3000rpm...HOW DO I TAKE IT UPTO 3000rpm..plz help.

Re: Air Cooling my CPU
The pins are fine, you could get speedfan or you could go into BIOs to change the fan speed... or you could plug it to your PSU something like

Re: Air Cooling my CPU
in bios, somewhere there should be an option to switch between voltage and PWM fan control. You want to select voltage.

Re: Air Cooling my CPU
No, but the stock fan runs like it's on Steroids....even ventilation/air flow has been taken care of as much as I can...dnt know what else to do..think i've been conned into buying the Coolermaster

Re: Air Cooling my CPU
Magnethead, it's an old Intel 865GBF board..I checked & rechecked all BIOS options...no where does it show to switch voltage/fan control options...It just shows current RPM & basic information, not able to edit.

Re: Air Cooling my CPU
I read your post wrong. You're using a 4 prong cooler on a 3 pin mobo..it thought other way around. Should run fine as is? Otherwise, as suggested, connect directly to the power supply.
