Building and Learning

Hello And Good Evening
Recently I've been playing new games like Prototype and GTA IV that needs to load up with a good CPU and with my current CPU the game faces LAGG but is working...
I was about to buy a new very good CPU that kills the games but the problem is that I'm Kinda new to the world of computer and don't know alot about CPUS that what type is for gaming and what type is for non gaming acts and etc...
Here is my current system info :
Intell (R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz 3.21 GHz
1 GB of ram
Geforce 7600 GS 512 memory

I think my computer has got old and needs to be changed for the new incoming games and Programs that destroys hardware by using it's abilities ...
Please notice me if the other parts of my pc like ram or graphic is not good enough and needs to be changed

I'm about to buy each of them less that 100$

I was wondering if there is a way by the internet to find out which cpu is suitable for an option like gaming or programing and etc ...What I mean is about something like a chart that shows CPUS and starts from the best CPU to the rubbish one
same as other cards

Thanks for any advice

Re: Building and Learning

Your P4 3.2 is probably the best you're going to do without changing Mobo's & RAM.
Including all of your PC specs. makes it easier for us to give you relative information.

Re: Building and Learning

Ok i had a question
if i buy this CPU=Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
am i able to play strong games and how can i compare this CPU with the requirement CPU of a game to see which is better in any case?
because i found this site http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php that in there when i click on a CPU name it shows CPUses charts and compare each other but i am not sure that this comparison is about being better...ok let me to tell more cleanly :
Is there any site to say that this CPU is better than that CPU???

Re: Building and Learning

The E8400 is a very good gaming CPU, but it is not compatible with your motherboard. It won't even fit in the socket.

As for a chart of what CPUs are better that what, not really. Different types of CPU are better at different things. It's more than just GHz!

just click on the benchmark test or game and it will show you a chart of how different CPU's performed. But different CPU's will be better at certain things. The E8400 and E8500 have a very high clock speed which games love.

The E8400 is capable of playing every game that is out right now and surpases even the recommended processor settings by far. The E8400 and E8500 are two of the best and most affordable gaming CPU's there are.

As for finding a processor for your motherboard, we would need to know the brand and model of your motherboard. But like tyree said, you already have a 3.2ghz processor, you won't find many that are much faster than you would notice a difference.

If you want to upgrade, it would be better to upgrade CPU, motherboard, and memory.

Not really. If knew the model of your motherboard we might be able to tell you if you can use a Pentium D. But your CPU is probably close to the best you can use. Also if you want to game your current card will only manage low settings in most modern games. And a graphics card upgrade would probably require a new power supply.

We need the model #, it should be printed somewhere close to the CPU socket.

Re: Building and Learning

Basically if you want to play modern games on decent settings you'd need to upgrade:

Motherboard
CPU
RAM
Graphics card
Power supply

So essentially a whole new computer, just keeping the old drives. And you'd probably want a new case for the build as well.

Use this: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

I have class soon, but if you can give me a budget of how much you want to spend, and a list of same games you'd like to play I can think on it and make suggestions when I get back.
