Re: New computer

This graphics card would get almost the same performance as the 9800GTX+ for a bit less money: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102853
Or a 4850: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121325 that has 1GB of memory as well.

Go with this memory, it's cheaper and just as good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145247

The DVD burner you're looking at is sold out... But so is the one we usually recommend. But if you're going to have to wait either way, then this would be my choice: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106289

Otherwise looks good.

Whether you get a quad or not depends on what exactly you're going to be doing. Is this a gaming rig? If so, what games?

Great DVDRW: LG $30 Better writer than the Samsung and much quieter than the Lite-On.

Re: New computer

yes gaming, not really hardcore gaming or overclocking but more like just to have to play new games coming out like borderlands, aion, modern warfare 2 and like diablo 3, yes I know the dvd is out and should I get quad or duo? Also why does ati have so many streaming processors but nvidia has way less but same performance? Does ati make up there lack of knowledge of streaming processors with more of them?

Re: New computer

ATI uses lots of stream processors with a low clock speed;
nVidia uses fewer stream processors with a high clock speed.

It works out to about the same. They are both very competent manufacturers.

Re: New computer

Depends on the type of games you'll be playing. Name what you want to play and I'll tell you what type of CPU would be best in your price range.

you can figure a baseline for gaming performance is the dual core E8500 which can esialy be overclocked to 4.0ghz

you can buy a $100.00 high performance motherboard = both mobo and cpu = $289.00 for both

or

965 AMD deneb quad core @ 3.4ghz and a $100.00 motherboard

these would be very good options either direction

the Intel Q9650 or newer is going to cost you alot more money for the whole package

Re: New computer

With the games you want to play I'd say stick with an E8400 or E8500, most games cannot utilize quad core CPU's yet.

Newegg has a few combo deals that are pretty decent for the E8400 right now.
E8400 + Asus Rampage Formula motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.273310
E8400 + Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6

Re: New computer

The main problem with the Newegg combo deals is they want to include overkill items, like the Asus Rampage Mobo, or low quality items.
I have found a few good combo deals but you have to check them frequently.

I seldom buy combo's myself

I would shoot for the Intel E8500 and the GA-EP45-UD3L or GA-EP45-UD3P

if you want an asus board I would go with the P5Q-Deluxe or P5Q-E

Re: New computer

I agree with Tyree 100% ...........boards like the Rampage and Formula etc etc are over priced hype boards; ok for fellas with big budgets but I dont consider them "bang for the buck boards"

Re: New computer

it all looks very good to me; plenty of computing power and guaranteed stability /hard to beat!

add an after market cpu cooler like the zalman 9700 or cheaper = artic 7 freezer pro and that rig will overclock effortlessly if desired
