Computer Part Compatilbity

Hello All,

I am currently building a new server PC for a 2D game i host, i have been using one of my old computers but its really unreliable now and looking to build something both efficient and powerful.

As far i have research into other server hosting the same game i will need a decent CPU and motherboard to house it as well as a good amount of fast(ish) RAM and a good wired networking card, and average graphic card would be fine. And a few fans to keep everything cool. I am looking for this server to be on most of the time so also need to think about how much power they are drawing.
Here is what i am looking at so far i know that the motherboard and the CPU should be Compatible as they are both Socket AM3 i believe that is the figures that should match

CPU

Motherboard

RAM

Graphics Card

Would like to have this maybe to but i don't think i have SATAII (other than that i will use my old one or looking for suggestions)
Harddrive

Case

USB

CD Drive

Do i need?
Networking card

I am working on a budget, but am open minded. I would really love it if someone could give me a idea of what connections have to be
Compatible with what to get the rig working for future reference, i would like to be-able to set my next computer up without asking for Compatibility help.

EG:- (Example may not be accurate)

Motherboards to CPU - Socket AM3/AM2/AM1
Motherboard to RAM - DDR1/DDR2/DDR3
.... so on so i can print out and it can help me next time.
i am using novatech as my vender as its a uk company.

P.S thanks in advance for your help.

Total Current Cost £531.41

Regards,
Phil

My System

Re: Computer Part Compatilbity

Building a "server" really depends on what you want to do with it.

Are you only going to use it for a 2d game host?
File storage?
What OS do you want it running? XP, Vista, windows 7, Server 2003, Server 2008?
Do you want to stay with AMD or open to Intel also?
And What price range would you like to stay around?
Do you just want something thats going to work (like a normal desktop) and host the game or were you looking more towards getting something closer to an actual server that will be stable and handle multitasking and such?
are you going to try and re-use any parts or want a complete system?
and last, do you want to build it yourself or are you open to prebuilt computers from major brands?
