i am placing the cpu in the socket, but when i go to close the socket it doesn't close smoothly. there is some pressure that i have to put on it, but i don't want to untill i know if it is right or not. i cant seem to have it fit any better than i do now, any info would be great.

Re: pressure when inserting the cpu

What motherboard and CPU are you using? Make sure that the CPU is inserted correctly, that the plastic cap on the socket cover has been removed, if present, and that there is nothing obstructing the socket. You will have to apply some slight pressure, but not very much.

Re: pressure when inserting the cpu

Some light resistance on the locking lever is normal.
