Building system for Nvidia GTX 295

Hello

I'm in the process of creating a shortlist for all the parts i'm going to include in my new system basically for Flight Sim X use as far as gaming is concerned. Firstly, is the GTX 295 too much for this game? Will it actually make a difference? I've already purchased the card but can just as easily get rid of it as well.

Secondly, everything is going to revolve/support the graphics card which is going to be the GTX 295 as already stated...other than that...i just need to make sure that the following parts on the PC support this video card. Please let me know...my biggest question is with regards to whether the motherboard is optimal for this card:

Processor AMD Athlon II X4 620 - Quad Core 2.6Ghz, 2MB Cache
Motherboard Socket AM3
Memory 4GB (2GB x2) DDR2 800
Graphics HD 4200 Graphics --> this is what i'm replacing with GTX 295
Hard Drive 500GB SATA
Optical Drive DVDR/RW Drive
Sound Card 7.1 High Definition Audio
Chassis Mid Tower w. 450W
I/O Ports 12x USB 2.0
Operating System Recommend Windows Vista / Windows XP

Please let me know if there should be anymore adjustments.

Re: Building system for Nvidia GTX 295

The GTX295 is way too much for that game, you could probably make due with a GeForce 9600GT/Radeon 4670. Maybe a 9800GT/4770/4830 at most.

I would not use any video card without getting a better power supply.

If you use the GTX295 I would recommend this power supply:

For a lesser powered card (up to a GTX260):

Re: Building system for Nvidia GTX 295

Thanks a lot...will look into it.

So the GTX 295 is way too much for this game eh? I know its one of the most taxing games out there...in terms of sapping performance

Re: Building system for Nvidia GTX 295

Its main draw is on the CPU, rather than the graphics card, at least with this particular game. Your best performance increase would be from upgrading your CPU from the Athlon II X2 to a Phenom II X4.

Re: Building system for Nvidia GTX 295

Whoops; thought it said X2, instead of X4. It should be ok... Not great, but maybe not worth the cost of upgrading to a Phenom II.

If a 7600GT can play with most settings on ultra, a 9600GT or 9800GT should be plenty. No need for a GTX295.
