Dream Build (For me)
I just want to start by saying that this forum has been tremondously helpful so far! When I first started going over the idea
of building a gaming pc, I felt like building a Rocket ship would have been easier. =) I really want the best performance for the money I pay so ALL input is encouraged. Please refrain from changing my build from AMD to Intel parts because I have worked for 2 months just planning this build and I want this first build to feel special and meaningful to me. I really only need help on the parts that I comment on or haven't included. Lol last time I posted a build for an AMD someone replied with an Intel build that threw my idea down the toilet =) LoL just think of this build as of my dream and dont ruin it =p AnywaYs...I hope its all compatible so far! Almost forgot to mention that this PC is for gaming and downloading torrents Here is what I have so far Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156078 For me I really love the look of this case, the reviews say it has good airflow and I was just thinking of about installing 2 120mm fans because the case fans blow. Is this a viable option? CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103674 Best bang for my buck CPU i could think of, Its a good multitasker and can OC well Motherboard - Ok, here is where I am really stuck! I'm pretty clueless about this one. All I know is i need it to have the ability to connect to my DSL. An easy BIOS set up would help because I am new to this. Lol Also make sure it fits my case =p ! ( Lol the guide I'm reading told me to pick the Mobo first...) RAM - haha I dont know about this either because I don't know which motherboard to get. DDR2 seems like the safest bet though, because DDR3 is fairly new. Dunno Dunno Dunno... Harddrive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136319 Video Card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150359 Optical Drive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106328 Does this reads CD's and DVD's? I thought it was only a burner but I'm new at this so bear with me =) Sound Card - Do I need one of these? I plan on buying a nice headset so i was wondering if onboard Audio would suffice for playing games. i like alot of FPS games so I like to hear the enemies footsteps lol. if someone could recommend me a good sound card I would appreciate it Monitor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009145 CPU cooler - Could someone suggest a really good one that I can overclock with =) I really want to mess around with overclocking with this pc Power Supply - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006 I think those are all the components that I need to build a pc...I feel like I, left out something...Please correct me If I did. Oh I almost forgot to ask this. What kind of screwdriver do I need for assembling the PC? Also do I need to buy anything extra like cables or connectors? I'm kind of lost because people are talking about SATA cables and other connectors, pins lol its All so new to me =) Okay thanks TSF! ; |

Re: Dream Build (For me)
I don't do AMD so I can't suggest a Mobo for that CPU.
Anything Raidmax is generally low quality. I've never seen that case so perhaps it's better. For an ATI chipped graphics card, Sapphire and PowerColor are better choices. Good choices on the Monotor-Hdd-Optical drive and PSU. A small Phillips head screwdriver will he needed. All the cables will be included with the Mobo and Mobo stand-offs should be included with the case.

Re: Dream Build (For me)
Yeah, I'm kind of skeptical about the case, but the look of it is whats holding me back...Can you recommend a good case with good airflow and thats a mid tower? I don't have room for a Full Tower and besides they look like minifridges lol

Re: Dream Build (For me)
I prefer CoolerMaster but I use some Antec.
I like this for standard builds: COOLER MASTER Centurion 590 $60 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119152 Almost a twin in Antec: Antec 300 $55 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129042 A little flashier: Antec 300 Illusion $70 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129066

Re: Dream Build (For me)
That RAIDMAX is a pretty big and spacious case, your second choice would be this Antec 900
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021 And yeah that optical drive reads and writes both CD and DVD but I suggest you go with a SATA interface as most motheboards these days only have one IDE connector and 6+ SATA connectors ![]() http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827118030 Mobo and RAM wise take a look at this ASUS M3A78-EM AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard. It also supports AM3 sockets and comes with latest BIOS version so this will save you a lot of time as you can just plug and play the CPU ![]() http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131324 Also it supports DDR2 RAM that's another reason to get this mobo as the newer socket am3 mobo's support only DDR3 which apparently is having problems and are having to be shipped back to manufacturers. So get some high spec DDR2 RAM, preferably this OCZ 4GB PC2-8500 which is $48 after MIR. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227289 Dacads Last edited by Dacads; 09-09-2009 at 10:31 AM. |

Re: Dream Build (For me)
wow thanks Dacads...I think I got a build now =)
Case - Raidmax Smilodon Extreme Black Mid Tower CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deben Motherboard - I can't decide between any of them. The one Dacads posted wasnt Dual Channel so incompatible with RAM? HardDrive - WD Cav Black 640gb Optical Drive - This one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827118030 or this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106328 RAM - 4gbs but I don't know which Mobo yet Video Card - XFX Radeon 4890 And that is it so far... I really need someone's advice on an AMD Motherboard because I have never done this before. Also I am a clumsy person and I don't if I would be able to ground my self so I'm just going to buy a ESD strap to be safe. So is everything compatible so far? Monitor - Acer 22' Widescreen LCD PSU - Corsair 750w (One I posted earlier ) |

Re: Dream Build (For me)
How is this motherboard to complete my build with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128394
I also found this combo to go with the mobo - the same mobo with 4gb of OCZ DDR2 800 RAM for 119 bucks... looks good http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.252108 So does everything look compatible so far, lol I'm getting impatient and I already but a computer desk, new chair, headset, keyboard, and mouse lol I AM SO READY for this!!!!!
