[SOLVED] Compatibility?
Alright then! I have been looking to build a gaming pc for about 2 months now and am slowing narrowing down a build that
suits me. i posted something amonth ago about recommended builds and I think that I'm onto something. To be honest, I know very little about building computers and I'm even more clueless about BIOS and setting up the PC after building it. It all stiill seems so overwhelming to me and I hope building a gaming pc isnt too difficult. Okay, so now I'm going to list my build and I hope anyone can tell me if everything is compatible and please offer some advice about the parts and if I can get better parts for a better price. I'm really looking to build a good gaming pc that is future proof and can make every game I play look good =) Also I have looked at the sticky on the AMD/Intel builds several times... Phew..... OKay here goes! Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156078 CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103471 MOtherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128395 Power Supply - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006 RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122 Hard Drive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136319 Monitor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009145 OS - Probally just get a copy of Windows Vista 64bit with Win 7 upgrade Video Card - I don't know which kind to get, lots of choices and I'm not knowledgeable on the subject. Was thinking about the Sapphire Radeon 4870 1gb CD/DVD Drive - I also don't know about these, how many should I have etc... CPU Cooler - I have no idea about this one and would like advice on this matter Fans - I dont understand on where I should install fans and I also dont know how to install them lol... So is all of this compatible so far? I would really like someone to post about a good CPU cooler, video card, CD drive and what kind of fans to get. Please and Tnank you! oops Almost forgot to ask about what do I do after building the Pc, install OS and what are BIOS? Still really lost on this techy stuff. Re: Compatibility?
Appears to all be compatible, I'm a little shaky on AMD so I'm not sure... I think I heard somewhere that the Phenom II CPUs will only work in motherboards that have an AM3 only socket and DDR3 RAM? I'd have to double check.
I have the Sapphire Radeon 4870 1GB, it is an excellent graphics card and I have no complaints. I've had some issues about it being bottlenecked by my CPU, but with the Phenom II x4 940 you should have issues with that.

Re: Compatibility?
The board and CPU are fine, The AM3 only socket offers DDR3 ram which although faster is new and a little troublesome yet.
Your case comes with 4 fans (2x120mm & 2x80mm) that should be plenty. It seems my favorite Asus and LG drives are always out of stock any more I've been using this one> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827118030 The CPU comes with a heat sink and fan thats good for stock clocks and a mild overclock. The Bios will be preinstalled on the motherboard, you'll need to install the OS and motherboard / video drivers / audio drivers, they will come on a disk with the components. The HD4870 is a good card> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102849 or the HD4890> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102841 |
