[SOLVED] First build! (AMD)

I was wondering if someone here knew about a build I can make that would center around an AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Quad.

I really wanted this CPU and was hoping someone could list me a build centered around this CPU for about $1,000. I don't know alot about computers and was hoping ( wow I've said "hoping" alot....) if someone could list me a quality build with links for prices. This PC will be used for gaming and watching movies. Also could you guys please include a good monitor for gaming in the build. I really dont know what type of monitor or size is good for gaming and what resolutions to use. OK Please and Thank You:

Dacads, that's an Intel build.

Drager, post it and I'll be glad to look it over.

Re: First build! (AMD)

Well I dont actually know my build, been pouring over ideas on a build and I keep hitting a wall... Since this is my first ever build I would like to spend as little money as possible, but I also want a good "bang for my buck." So far I was looking at a build centered around the AMD Phenom X2 Callisto for about $100.00. What intrigues me about this processor is that you can unlock this dual core's 3rd and 4th cores to get a quad core. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is still possible because all the articles I read are dated from June 2009. Also I need advice on how do I know if a GPU will bottleneck my CPU for a video card i was interested in a Sapphire 4870 or ATI Radeon 4890.

Another question... umm how much RAM should I purchase? Was thinking about 4gb of RAM, but I need to know if I get 6gb of RAM would I see a significant boost for gaming over 4gb of RAM

Re: First build! (AMD)

4GB is all you need, 6GB won't be any faster and you don't really need it unless you're going to be running three or four memory-intensive programs at once (games, CAD, VM, etc.).

Re: First build! (AMD)

Ebackhus? It looks like a really good build, but what sort of gaming quality will I get out the build you listed?

Re: First build! (AMD)

Exquisite. It's nearly on par with the 9850-based PC my wife uses. Makes mincemeat of Crysis on high and everything else is butter.

Course, this build cost about $600 less!

Re: First build! (AMD)

The Athlon x2 does not have the "extra cores" to unlock.
You would need the Phenom II x2 550 to try that, but be aware there is on guarantee that all the 550's sold will have working "extra cores" the early ones did to create a buzz sooner or later you're going to find ones with 1 or 2 cores that failed the manufacturing process and if unlocked either don't work or create problems.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...enom%20II%20X2

That's a nice spec ebackhus put together and will game well.
