Re: Opinions On New Pc Please?
Never heard of CIT power supply. I'm seeing £26.99 on a UK site.
That pretty much indicates it is not a quality unit so I would suggest getting a better PSU.

Re: Opinions On New Pc Please?
Quality and cheap do not go together for a PSU. High wattage is worthless if it's not stable clean power.
What graphics card are you using?

After a bit of digging I found the specs for that CIT ps. If you do the math, those numbers add up to 730 watts. If you push the current draws close to maximum, I will guaran-tee you that you would see the noise on those output lines by using just a multimeter. At best, what you have here is an overrated 550-600 w supply. AC INPUT: 230VAC 10A 50-60Hz DC Output Max +3.3V +5V +12V1 +12V2 -12V +5VSB 28A 30A 20A 20A 0.3A 2.5A These are the base numbers for a Corsair 550 VX. AC Input Rating 90 - 264VAC 5 - 9A 47Hz - 63Hz DC Output Max +3.3V +5V +12V -12V +5VSB 30A 20A 41A 0.8A 3A Last edited by Tumbleweed36; 08-30-2009 at 08:04 AM. Reason: language |

Re: Opinions On New Pc Please?
Cheapest 750w I'd recommend off the top of my head is the Corsair tx750w, which is L89.99: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/134677

Re: Opinions On New Pc Please?
If, as you say, you will be using onboard graphics, then a 450w supply will be plenty. If you are planning to, in time, add a graphics card then give this a look:

Re: Opinions On New Pc Please?
save up untill you have the money for a good psu.
There is no point in buying a good a setup and a crap psu because having a crap psu mean you risk damaging all your components in your computer. Think of it this way:- you get a ferrari which only takes 99 octane fuel in it, you would be pretty pissed off if you put normal unleaded in it and Ferrari tell you that you need a new engine because you have shattered the insides of the engine by using an inferior octane fuel. A power supply converts the AC from your wall socket to low voltage DC to make your computer run if you get a bad brand (wattage doesn't matter) then this conversion can go wrong and blow the insides of your computer. If you get a good brand like the corsair one mentioned or Seasonic then you have less chance of this going wrong. Never skimp on a psu even if it means waiting another month or two untill you have the appropriate funds for it.
