First build/Gaming PC

Budget: How much money are you willing to spend on the new build?
$2000 Canadian for the whole set up.

Brands: Are there any brands of components you want or don't want?
AMD/Nvidia, gaming pc not worth I7 IMO

Multitasking: Will you be multitasking with this computer and if so, how much?
when i game, i only game.

Gaming: Will you be gaming and if so, how much and how new are the games?
will damn near play anything under the sun. Just want my PC to kick ***.

Calculations: Will you be doing any intense calculations or media encoding?
nope

Overclocking: Do you plan on overclocking and if so, how much?
None, never...no intentions on learning either...not for me.

Storage: How much storage will you need and what will you be storing?
640gb should be good.

Legacy Support: Will you need support for older hardware like parallel, serial, or PS/2 devices?
no
Operating System: Do you want Windows XP or Vista, or Linux compatibility?
Vista ( do not want win 7, will buy retail in a few years )

Case: Do you want help selecting a case and if so, how big do you want it?
Smallish, antec 300 if it is big enough that is all i want, if i must upgrade will get CM690

Accessories: Do you want a keyboard, mouse, or other items included?
yes need it all.

Recycled Components: Will you be reusing any components you already have?
Nope

Monitor: If you want a monitor, what size do you want and should it be widescreen? - Samsung 1920x1200

Stores: Do you have any online stores that you prefer to purchase from?
i am not building it myself paying the $50 for someone else to do it. we can just use newegg as an example, as i am price matching everything

Location: What country do you live in? Canada

Asked for a build few months back i held up & decided to learn about PC and create my own build, this is what i came up with, more than likely i will go to Memory Express ( canadian PC retail outlet )have them price match & get them to build it for me. They seem to favor stocking corsair ram, would get OCZ but no choice for me.

Biggest question is if the Antec 300 is big enough, i am not a fan of a HUGE fancy system i do not overclock so decent airlfow is good enough. Also motherboard questions, see below.

Re: First build/Gaming PC

That build seems to be fine.
Why dont you have a look into Samsung Spinpoint Hard drives? Not sure what they cost for you, but here in Ireland, theyre only €78 for a 1TB drive.
I dont think I have any other comments about that build - apart from GAME ON! :P

Re: First build/Gaming PC

Asus Mobo's are good. I don't do AMD so I can't comment on those particular boards.
I don't do DDR3 builds because much of it is being recalled for faulty chips.
