http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...d-Tower%20Case case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131232 mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...M%20DDR2%20800 memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...202.8GHz%203MB cpu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...V%202.91%20SLI psu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127430 video card this'll add up to around 714$ so theirs 86$ for any more quality so feel free to put in your best advice for my future in building |

Re: linux dream
I'm an AMD guy but even I would go with a Socket F or whatever the latest socket type is. SLI isn't as good an upgrade option as a current socket type is.

Re: linux dream
Graphics card is a little overkill for Linux since there aren't many graphics-intensive games for it, but if you're dual-booting Windows that's fine. If you're only going to be doing desktop stuff, no gaming, a GeForce 9500GT or Radeon 4650 will do fine.
Also, that power supply is NOT one I would recommend. It will work, but you can certainly get a lot better. I'm willing to bet a Corsair tx750w (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=Corsair%20750) will probably run rings around that for $10 more. Last edited by Phædrus2401; 07-17-2009 at 11:39 PM. |

Re: linux dream
im a little old school so the whole sli socket thing confused me so ill look into it as for the linux graphics card i was gonna use wine to play my normal games i ust needed this kind of hardware in case linux became to much of a hassle for my gaming but dual booting sounds right

Re: linux dream
i actually meant to say i needed this hardware so i can play my more high-end games and this is a casual gaming build so im trying to be a little more cost effective with the whole linux adoption thing

Re: linux dream
Hate to break it to you, but I have yet to get a modern game running under WINE. The original Diablo and Fallout 2? Yes. After an hour of tweaking. Left 4 Dead or Fallout 3? Not yet.

Re: linux dream
Oh sure. E7400 and GTX260 can handle anything on the market, though it won't manage maximum settings in some games at high resolutions. Word of advice: go with EVGA instead of MSI, their customer support is better.

is this what you were talking about? if so the support wasnt what the reviews were saying however they were saying the clock settings were very befuddling to the gaming experience if you could get me a link to the card your talking about this will be alot easier Last edited by fattyxyz; 07-18-2009 at 03:00 AM. |

Re: linux dream
Drop the Nvidia chipset motherboard and go for a Intel chipset with a Intel CPU for best performance, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128372

Re: linux dream
with all the changes that i have had in the hardware list the total cost is now just under 700 so theirs still 100$ of room for better quality and i did switch for the new psu and mobo but my video card is still the same so any suggestions are still highly appreciated
