First time building..

I've thrown together a list of items and well as the title says it's my first time trying to build a computer.

So I stumbled across this website and hoped there might be someone out there nice enough to take a look and give me some feedback.

It's going to be used for gaming and just general office work. I've not picked out a graphics card yet because it's a case of where to start. So any good card suggestions would be nice.

Anyway heres the list i came up with;

CPU:
AMD CPU AM3 Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition triple core 2.8GHz x3

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/40059/alt

Motherboard:
Asrock motherboard M3A790GXH/128M AMD AM3 DDR3 ATX

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/40996

RAM:
OCZ Memory 2GB

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Pr...d-Edition-DDR3

Optical drive:
Optiarc AD-7203A-0B Black 20x Multiwriter DVD RW RAM

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Pr...iwriter-DVD-RW

Case:
Silver ATX case with Blue LED Fans

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=38058

PSU:
Trust 600W PSU Big Fan 16117

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Pr...-Big-Fan-16117

-------

I did read over your PSU stickie and it actually made me worry over help.

So uh any recommendations, changes/anything i might of missed would be nice. Like i said first time, spent longer than i care to admit looking about and picking bits out so it'll be nice to get feedback.

Thanks for any help!

Re: First time building..

Before we get into Power Supplies what are you planning to use for a Video card?
DDR3 is still a little flaky you may be better off using the native speed 1333 over the Overclocked speed of 1600.

The x3 core CPU has limited uses if this is a budget consideration I would use the X2 550, if not the x4 955 which is closer in performance to the Intel CPU's

Re: First time building..

I agree with WRENCH all the way .........what is your building budget?

if possible the Denab core 955 would be a wiser choice; along with DDR2 memory and better PSU

To be honest with you theres so many video cards out there I'm at a loss as to which to get. Any suggestions on that would be great.

I checked out those CPUs you suggested i take it they'll work alright with the other stuff?

As for budget, well I'm not looking to break the bank if we can keep it under £500 great.

Re: First time building..

hi and welcome to TSF!

Like mentioned above by wrench97 go with the amd x4 9550, it's cheaper and better then the 720 you listed :p

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/37650

PSU wise get this OCZ 600w definitely worth the extra £10 and it comes with long 3 year warranty!

About the graphics card what games do you plan to be playing :)
With the system I think a sapphire radeon 4850 will do well as it is a good top of midrange card and will handle most games at high settings and is a great price!
