[SOLVED] I made a mistake... Somewhere

So, I've just put together a computer, this isn't my first time, but it's my first time using both a SATA HDD, and a SATA DVD-RW, so it was slightly different for me.

Here's the specs:

Phenom II x2 550
GIGABYTE GA-MA78GPM-UD2H
Antec Earthwatts 500
Geforce 8800GT, and 2 gigs of PC6400 RAM
Antec Sonata III case

It won't boot, I press the power button, and there's a flicker in the room, as if it's going to turn on, but it doesn't. I know it could be a million things, I can post pictures tomorrow if that'll help.

I just hope I don't have anything defective... The RAM and the 8800GT were used in my old PC, but the other things are brand new...

So, pictures tomorrow, think you guys can help me out?

Re: I made a mistake... Somewhere

so you have another power supply from your old computer you can try? Did you bench test the system as listed in the sticky on the main page of the building forum?

Re: I made a mistake... Somewhere

I too, recommend the bench test to try and get this rig going. However, there is another issue that concerns me, and that is the 500 watt Antec earthwatts power supply. This is not a real strong power supply (had one) and it might have difficulty with an 8800gt video card. That could be an issue here, so if possible, test with a stronger power supply if you don't get it sorted with the bench test.

Re: I made a mistake... Somewhere

Good catch Tyree. Somehow I missed that statement and that should be of a major concern, if not for the electric coming in via the outlet, but maybe a short in the power supply.

Re: I made a mistake... Somewhere

I was certainly not not ruling out the Antec PSU. I've had a few Antec's come back to bite me.

Re: I made a mistake... Somewhere

Sorry I didn't reply on time. I fixed it, it was a faulty power outlet, luckily.

Just in response to this, I had the 8800GT working flawlessly on an Antec Smartpower 2.0 450 Watts for over a year, and the Earthwatts is a much more reliable and solid series, so I knew it wasn't one of these matters.
