Cool I have $1000 to build a new pc :)

well i have saved up to $1000 and i really want to build a new pc for myself (i already have a monitor, keyboards and mice)
i really want to make one primarily for gaming, apart from that only a bit of net browsing and office work. I really dont mind about the parts (like intel or AMD)
but i would really like it too be powerful enough for the latest games (if thats possible) i would like it to have at least 250gig hard drive, but apart from that i cant think of anything else i would want with it. cheers guys

Want to Build A New Intel or AMD Computer? Here are 6 suggested models with Spec

Take the $800 build, up the graphics card to a Radeon 4890 and the power supply to a Corsair 750tx and you're all set.

Re: I have $1000 to build a new pc :)

i would say a gtx 260 grafics card with a 1000w or u can do 750 psu. it also comes down to cpu which can be 2quad or the core i7 which is faster. the memory should be about 4g

Re: I have $1000 to build a new pc :)

You don't need a 1000 watt PSU for a GTX260. You really only need a quality 650 watt PSU for that range of card (GeForce: 9800GTX+ through GTX270, Radeon: 4850 through 4890), though a 750 watt might be better. On a $1000 budget for a gaming computer, a Core i7 build is out of the question, and trying to build a Core 2 Quad build would simply siphon money away from the graphics card with very little improvement in CPU gaming performance. The E8400 and a Radeon 4890 or GeForce GTX275 is probably the best combo for this computer. 4GB of DDR2 800/1066 would be best as well.

Re: I have $1000 to build a new pc :)

For gaming E8400/E8500, the few games that claim Quad core optimization only off load about 10% from the main 2 cores to the other 2 so the faster clock speed of the E8400/E8500 leads to better frame rates then the slower clock quads.

Then you have another issue the E8400 is faster until you get to the Q9650> http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/d...x1050,818.html

Re: I have $1000 to build a new pc :)

The quad has 4 cores the C2D has 2 cores, the new i7 if that is what you have has hyperthreading which games don't use, they didn't write code for when it can out on the Pentium 4 so Intel dropped it, games still don't take advantage of it, nor do they take full advantage of 4 cores a couple of newer games are claiming multithreaded quad support but only off load about 10% of the load to the other 2 cores of course if the first 2 are not maxed out doesn't make a bit of difference in performance, The i7 will out perform the the C2D/C2Q at slower clock speeds because it handles more data per clock cycle just the same way a C2D at 2.0Ghz out performed a 3.6Ghz Pentium D, performance to price ratio still puts the E8400/E8500 in plus column for a budget minded gaming PC, It's not worth trying to buy cheaper(less quality) components to build an i7 rig that won't last or that gives constant problems. The Video card, Power Supply, Case and drives are going to be the same prices for both, the CPU, MB & Ram are where the cost savings are.
A P6T, i7 920 & 3 sticks of DDR3 are about $630, where a E8400, P5Q turbo, 2 sticks of DDR2 about $320 so for $300 you get 9 FPS more in Cyrsis at 131 to 140 FPS you will not be able to see the difference.
The i7 component prices are coming down when the setup gets to about $400-$450 it will become worth the difference. Or if you use programs like Adobe CS4 (mainly Audition) or do a lot of video and graphic creation/editing then the quad is the way to go, that's where they shine.

Re: I have $1000 to build a new pc :)

grafic card can also depend on what games he playing. guild wars takes a 8800 and i had no problems with a c2d and a geforce 9600. wow doesnt need take that much. cyrsis takes a good grafics card but i never played it on this computer. i gess i would say do a motherboard with c2d and 2quad so if he ever wanted to a 2quad when it gets cheaper he can. a gtx 260 is cheaper but the gtx 275 can better gaming.

Looks like a solid build to me. Don't know much about speakers, but I think you might as well go with a 5.1 setup.
