Re: My Rig

What is it for? As a gaming computer I'd rate it around a 6.5, because of the middling graphics card and mid-range CPU.

Re: My Rig

The E6850 still has a lot of life in it nothing wrong there, if your gaming the video card and probably the PSU(?) could stand an upgrade.

Re: My Rig

yeah; I agree with Wrench

the E6850 is damn near as good as the E8400 ..........the E8400 overclocks easier but the E6850 is plenty capable of overclocking to 3.6GHZ with a decent after market air cooler for the cpu

as stated; if you are a gamer then I would be looking at a video card and power supply upgrade depending on your desires and budget

I would give your system a rating of 7.0 .....with a video card upgrade 7.5

Re: My Rig

Just to add to what's been said about the CPU, I'm running an E6850 on an Asus P5 motherboard, overclocked to 3.4GHz with stock cooling and 2GB 800MHz RAM. Good temperatures and stable voltages. No problems playing games at high settings, media editing, multitasking, etc.

Good choice on the new mouse. The G9 is very smooth (especially the wheel, check out the microgear switch underneath), and the software is great for creating profiles and fine-tuning the settings.

Re: My Rig

Looks like a very usable build.
The 6850 is a very capable CPU.
You didn't list the PSU.

I agree; only a rich man / a fool would think of upgrading from the E6850......but the PSU question is a very good one

good choice on video card .......although XFX is less than stellar when it comes to RMA / Warranty / Support; a better choice would be Power Color or HIS or Saphire

"Less than stellar" is being kind.
Sapphire & PowerColor would be a much better choice for ATI chipped cards.
The 8600 GTS may be all that Ratchet_Expert needs or wants.
I use a 3650 ATI that more than serves my needs.
