Re: Need a new pc !!

intels core 2 duo
nvidia 9600
2GB of ram is more than enough, if you want you can go to 4
HDD 500GB is good
go for 64bit
and some power supply with 800W corsair, thermaltake, coolermaster or silverstone
and I prefer Gigabyte motherboard :D

Re: Need a new pc !!

I'm a fan of nvidia tbh, I think it's cooler

The 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of random access memory (RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit system

I prefer Nvidia, always use it.

What sort of games do you want to play with the new PC?

Re: Need a new pc !!

Also, the biggest question at this point is: What is your budget?

And what will be the primary use of the PC?

Re: Need a new pc !!

both chipset manufacturers (ATI & Nvidia) both produce outstanding high performance cards

if it were not for the kickbutt performance and cost of the ATI cards the Nvidia cards would be back to $600 & $700.00 dollars AGAIN

but ATI is manufacturing cards which are equal or better with every model of Nvidia cards, and because ATI is selling them for realistic prices, Nvidia must follow suit .......:if: Nvidia were truely better withouth question, then price matching would not matter; just like the Intel CPU's vs AMD prices

It doesn't matter whether you go AMD or Intel, ATI or Nvidia....the differences are so small that a casual gamer would not notice. Just go with whatever company seems more sympathetic to you.

Having experience with Intel, I'd suggest a Core 2 Duo or Quad. The Nehalem i7 is only for crazy overclockers who want to play the newest games at the highest resolutions.

Regarding RAM, 2GB is minimum and maximum for casual gamers of today; only the newest games played at high resolutions use more. But since DDR2 RAM is so cheap these days (and for future proofing your new PC), I suggest you upgrade to 4GB...and because the 32-Bit version Windows only recognizes upto roughly 3GB RAM, take a 64-bit Windows instead if you choose 4GB RAM...800MHz is enough; no need for DDR3.

As for the Harddrive, I say 500GB is minimum...each of the newer games takes up 8-10GB of space on your drive, so you'll be filling that space pretty quickly. And space is very cheap, so go for more - again, it's good for future proofing your rig. I'd choose 1TB if you want space to last for the next 3-4 years...it isn't that much costlier anyways.

Now regarding the graphic card (GPU), it depends on which games you want to play and at what resolution. Games like Gears of War, CoD4, Assassin's Creed etc. will run fine with the GeForce 8 series (8800GT and above) cards at resolution upto 1600 x 1200. Cards of 512 MB and above should suffice, if you want to hear more general terms. If you are interested in Crysis though, I suggest a GTX200 series card (like a GTX295 - best card out there right now, by the way ).

But the GTX295 is only needed if you want to play Crysis at a resolution greater than 1280 x 1024, although even the GTX295 struggles at resolutions of 1920 x 1200 and gets pwned at 2560 x 1600.

Oh and while you're at it, take a 750W power supply unit unless you choose to take a GTX295 or HD4870X2 (in both these cases you'll need a 850W PSU) and a decent fan for your CPU as well (120mm Zalman; liquid cooling is unnecessary unless you plan on running more than 1 GPU [called SLI (for Nvidia cards) or Crossfire (for ATI cards), by the way)])

Hope that helps!
Cheers
