Some Questions

This is my build so far

Case: Antec Twelve Hundred Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case
$164.99

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel
$134.99

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale
$167.99

Hard Drive: Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000HLFS
$229.99

Wireless Card: EDIMAX EW-7128G IEEE 802.11b/g PCI
$19.99

PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI
$99 ($79.00 after rebate)

1. How does that look?
2. Whats the best video card? I am open for any prices as long as it stays below $300. I was looking very seriously at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130303 but as you see, it is deactivated (most likely sold out) and I dont feel comfortable buying from somewhere other than newegg. So suggest away please
3. Which kind of ram is best for 4x2GB (so I would buy 2 pairs of whatever one below)

G.SKILL PI Black 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231209

-or-

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122

-or-

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231166

I plan on doing mostly gaming (especially WoW.) I want to get some really nice games when I build it too. Help me please.

Re: Some Questions

Drop the Raptor and get a WD Black series 32MBCache hdd. Apply the savings to an E8500 CPU.
Any of the PC6400 RAM you have listed.

Re: Some Questions

I agree; drop the raptor; those dont really show much speed increase over regular SATA 300 drives !

use the savings to increase to the E8500 and bump your PSU to the Corsair 750-TX

as for video card

this is my #1 favorite (unless money is no object)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130479

as for memory .......either choice is good but I would take the 1066mhz so you can overclock easier in the future

with the rig set-up as we have discussed you could easily overclock that set-up to 4.0ghz on air cooling simply by adding a $30.00 cpu cooler in the future like the artic freezer 7 pro

Re: Some Questions

Thanks you guys have been a big help.
How does this look now?

Case: Antec Twelve Hundred Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case
$164.99

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel
$134.99

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3
$189.99

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB
$69.99

Wireless Card: EDIMAX EW-7128G IEEE 802.11b/g PCI
$19.99

PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V
$119.49 ($99.49 after rebate)

Video Card: EVGA 896-P3-1173-AR GeForce GTX 275 FTW Edition
$294.99 ($274.99 after rebate)

RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 x2
$109.98

Also, would I need to get another fan since my case has so many fans and such good airflow? And would I only need 1 of those video cards in my case for games like Call of Duty and Fallout 3. Plus how would my comp run Crysis?

Re: Some Questions

You only need one of those graphics cards. I have a Radeon 4870, which is the equivalent of the GTX260 (one or two steps below the 275), and I can play Fallout 3 maxed on a 1440x900 display at 40+fps. The 275 should get you maxed on a 1680x1050, maybe 1900x1200, at 40+ and 25+ fps respectively. Crysis? Yeah.

The Antec 1200 has plenty of fans, but I'd say go ahead and get one more 120mm to put in the side to cool your graphics card.

I might up the PSU to the Corsair 750 watt. What you have will do just fine, excellently in fact, but the 750 would give you more headroom for overclocking.

You only really *need* 4GB of RAM, but RAM is cheap, so if you want to go for 8GB that's fine.

I've had a LOT of headaches with wireless cards... A lot. Especially with Dynex. *vomits* If you really want wireless go ahead, but if this were my build I'd live with running a CAT6 cable through some walls...

Re: Some Questions

Haha. Yeah I have to go wireless. If you saw I did upgrade the PSU to 750w. What would be a cheap fan, just for a little cooling for my graphics card.

Re: Some Questions

Oh and another thing. Right now I am running a wireless mouse and a wireless keyboard combo.I was planning on buying a KPA switch so I dont have to buy another mouse and keyboard. However I realized that that might not work. They work of USB and my mouse has a USB receiver so that would be fine and dandy. However my keyboard is a wireless Apple keyboard so is there a way I could make this work?

Also I need a CD / DVD reader. Nothing too expensive and preferably blu-ray but it no way is it necessary.

Re: Some Questions

your system changes / editing will deliver plenty of computing muscle for all gaming; even the inefficient programmed "crysis"

as for dvd writer .........look for Sony Optiarc at newegg .....about $25.00 or $30.00 sorry but I just cant bring myself to go bluray ..........way toooooooo much money at this time

I personally am not sure on the keyboard dilemma.......maybe others can shed light on that one
