Redoing whole PC
I have a dell optiplex gx280 SFF
With the following upgrades everything else is stock Xfx 9400GT 2gb of 667 ram 250gb hdd pc power and cooling 400watt psu and this case- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119068 Yes, I got the proprietary mobo into that case. Now, I want to make this crappy computer amazing.\ I do not want to get a new mobo, cpu etc, because then I will need a new Os and it just gets ridiculous with prices. $100 for vista f*** that. I want the following Dual core CPU or better 4 gb of ram Best video card I can get without bottle necking everything else I was thinking 9600? And if need be a bigger PSU. Now, I am good with PC's with I don't know about the CPU. I currently have a p4 3.0Ghz. So please give me links onto sites (newegg, tiger) Of parts that will turn this computer around!! Thanks for the help in advance |

Re: Redoing whole PC
well.......hear goes...all the stuff you "dont" want to hear
your motherboard will not support a worthwhile decent dual core cpu your best bet is getting a new motherboard from mwave.com / clikc refurbished / click motherboards ..........you can save decent money and those boards are top notch buys! you want an intel P45 chipset board / and also a E8400 cpu stick with your old video card for now .................a new copy of XP can be had for under $100.00 .......probably Vista for that matter too! or windows 7 RC if the key codes are still available for trial use ?

Re: Redoing whole PC
Thanks for the reply
Now, how about these http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearch...iteria=Cb25099 http://www.mwave.com/mwave/SkuSearch...iteria=BA25637 What do you say? 1. Also I am going to be re using my 250gb hard drive, do I just DBAN it and then its good to go? 2. Also until windows 7 comes out fully I am going to use the trial, its still available. Will that work? 3. Should I get a bigger power supply? 4. I have a 2gigs of ram right now, ddr2 800 speed should I just resuse that or should I get a new 2x2gb? Thanks for your time. |

Re: Redoing whole PC
hi, you could be able to run a duo core cpu depending on your mobo, do a scan with everest or cpuid and post here.
RAM wise get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122 And for a graphics card I recommend the geforce 9600gso as it is a good performing mid range card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121314 Get a decent PSU, preferably this antec 500w http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371016 have fun!

Re: Redoing whole PC
Antec PSU's have changed suppliers recently and are not that reliable. Look at Seasonic or Corsair. Corsiar has better prices with their rebates but the rebate is a credit card good ONLY for future Corsair purchases.

A Dell motherboard that came factory with a P4 3.0ghz is not going to support new cpu's .........OEM system makers make sure of that (poor bios support)

the motherboard and cpu you choose are very good choices! that MSI board will ovwerclock rather well when the day comes for another performance boost. you could easily expect to achieve 3.4 or 3.6 ghz with an mid-grade cpu cooler like the artic freezer 7 pro I would use the ram you have and then add another 2 x one gig matched pair of DDR2-800 sticks when you can spare the $$$$$$$ / Tyree is correct; the ideal configuration is using two x 2 gig matched pair memory sticks of DDR2-800; but we all have to live with our spending limits ![]() dont drag your feet on getting the windows 7RC download, those wont be avaialble much longer now that Win 7 hits the streets July 13th for consumer buying >>>>>you can use the trial version until June 2010 at which time you will have to buy a retail version of Win 7 Corsair 750 would be the way I would go / you could probably get "away" with the Corsair 650 watt .......but the 750 is much more future upgrade friendly when it comes time to get a work horse video card as for the antec suggestion; I cant echo that reccomendation, Antec and I have parted ways, too many changes in internal component qulaity as they manufacture for my liking and reccomendation; one year they are top notch then they drop a level or two of internal quality and "bang" youre back in the mud again ......... ........no thanks Antec been there; done that ........no-mo ![]() enjoy the challenge......it will be well worth your time
