[SOLVED] Building a PC

I'd just like to say that this site looks wonderful from what I've seen so far.

I'm building a new computer and I'd like a second opinion before I order everything.

__________

Budget: No more than $600, I'm kinda tight on money right now, but I've got a few components already that should save me a few bucks. If I need to, I can go a little bit over.

Brands: Not really any preferences, Intel is always best imo.

Multitasking: Yes, web browsing, office, music, video, CD/DVD burning, video converting, etc.

Gaming: For the most part, no.

Calculations: Some video rendering and converting.

Overclocking: Not at all.

Storage: 500 GB is good since I have a couple externals.

Legacy Support: No.

Operating System: Vista Ultimate x64 most likely. I also have Vista x86 and XP so anything is an option.

Case: Doesn't matter as long as it looks decent and everything fits well.

Accessories: No.

Recycled Components: Mouse, Keyboard, 640 GB External Hard Drive, External CD/DVD burner, Operating System

Monitor:
Already own 19" LCD

Stores: Newegg is my favorite, but anything is an option really.

Location: Northeast USA

__________

Here are the components I already own:

CD/DVD Burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106278

External Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136324

Keyboard/Mouse: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823126041

Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16889136029

Operating System: I own copies of Windows Vista x86 (32-bit) and 64-bit. I also own a copy of Windows XP. I'll probably go with Vista x64.
__________

Here's what I've picked out so far:

CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115041

RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231166

GPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102838

PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139008

HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136073

CASE http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129042

Re: Building a PC

It all looks good except, I would bump up the power supply to at
least the corsair 650watt, or maybe the 550watt, good brand psu btw.
You may take a look at the e8400, or the 8500 cpu, dual core. You
will save some money and not really sacrafice performance, and save
enough money to bump up the psu...

Re: Building a PC

The Dual Core CPU (E8400/8500) would be a better choice for gaming.
Use PC6400RAM.
Use the savings for the bigger PSU.

Re: Building a PC

What if I bought a $150-200 case that came with a PSU? Also, can anyone recommend a decent GPU?

Re: Building a PC

Most of the time the psu that comes with the case is junk.
Go here,,it will give great insight on psu's
Power Supply Information and Selection
As you upgrade your video card your psu selection becomes more
critical. If you dont plan on a sli config, I would go for the corsair 750watt
psu, as it can take about anything you throw at it.

I think I'll go with the 650W in that case. I'm really stuck deciding on a GPU. I want a fairly decent one for under 80.

Re: Building a PC

I'd rather have the HIS card over the XFX.

ATI > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161252

Nvidia> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161252

If your primary use is higher end games see if you can stretch the budget a little for a 9800GT or HD4770
