Build for remote desktop pc?

I am planning to build a computer for a university professor. Mainly she will use it as a remote desktop to access her computer at University and Super computer centers. She will also use to to store research results.

I'm thinking this computer will not need to be expensive at all. I believe working as a remote desktop uses very few resources, so I can build a simple computer and just focus on reliability. Or am I incorrect?

Thanks for your opinions.

Mark

Re: Build for remote desktop pc?

Do you have a budget? Do you need any other hardware (monitor-mouse-keyboard-etc.)?

Re: Build for remote desktop pc?

I'm looking to spend $500 - $900 on computer parts, depending upon what the computer needs to do.

Most of the time I believe the prof uses Putty to access and remotely control other computers. So I guess the only thing neccessary is a very reliable and secure internet connection. Maybe a good onboard ethernet chipset is the only thing to worry about?

Have a look at this thread for ideas. Want to Build A New Intel or AMD Computer? Here are 6 suggested models with Spec

Most all new Mobo's have Ethernet onboard. Security comes from a router or software.
