I've decided to go with AMD after reading a lot of reviews of their products from both regular users and places like CNet, Kotaku, etc. because it seems that for games like Guild Wars, Aion, Lineage II and Diablo III an i7 is unnecessary overkill.
So after tons of research, this is the build I've come up with that I would desperately love to have some feedback regarding: Case: Thermaltake V9 Gaming Tower Case Power Supply: 800 Watt -- Quad SLI Ready Processor: AMD Phenom™ II X4 940 Black Edition Quad-Core CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology Processor Cooling: Thermaltake V1 CPU Cooling Fan System Kit Motherboard: Asus M4A78 PLUS AMD 770/SB700 Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, Dual PCI-E MB Memory: 8 GB [2 GB X4] DDR2-800 PC6400 Memory Module Corsair XMS2 Xtreme w/Heat Spreader Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4890 1GB PCI-Express x16 Hard Drive: 500 GB HARD DRIVE [Serial-ATA-II, 3Gb, 7200 RPM, 16M Cache] CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive: 22X Dual Format/Double Layer DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW Drive Sound Card: 3D Premium Surround Sound Onboard Network Card: Onboard LAN Network (Gb or 10/100) Built-in USB 2.0 Ports Meter Display: XION Color LCD Thermal Control Panel (it looked cool) Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit I already have a Logitech G11 gaming keyboard, G5 laser gaming mouse, Plantronics gaming headset w/mic and a 24" Dell LCD 5ms widescreen monitor. I'm also planning on getting a D-Link 8 port ethernet switch and one of their wired gaming routers from Newegg once the comp is built. Once again, thanx for the advice and help you've all given me thus far! ^_^ |

Re: Gaming rig for MMORPGs - is this good?
What brand is the PSU?
Over 4GB of RAM is overkill and a waste of money. You might consider a 32MBCache Hdd for more performance. A Dual Core CPU is a better choice for gaming.

Re: Gaming rig for MMORPGs - is this good?
PSU is Corsair, and it's actually 850 Watt (pasted the wrong one). I didn't know about the memory. I just kept seeing gamers whining about only having 4GB so I thought I needed more. #_#
Taking your suggestions into consideration, I changed the following: CPU: AMD Phenom™ II X2 550 Black Edition Dual-Core CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology AM3 & AM2+ support Memory: 4 GB [2 GB X2] DDR2-800 PC6400 Memory Module Corsair XMS2 Xtreme w/Heat Spreader Hard Drive: 1.5 TB HARD DRIVE Serial-ATA-II, 3Gb, 7200 RPM, 32M Cache |

Re: Gaming rig for MMORPGs - is this good?
That may be overkill for MMORPG gaming, but a good rig none the less.
One thing I will comment on is your CPU heatsink. While not bad, if you ever plan to overclock, I would recommend something a little beefier, such as a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme. |

Re: Gaming rig for MMORPGs - is this good?
I don't use AMD so I can't comment on their stock heatsink/fan but the Intel's hold up under a fair amount of OC'ing given the case has good airflow.

Re: Gaming rig for MMORPGs - is this good?
I have a Thermaltake V1 heatsink myself and I'm quite satisfied with it. It keeps my E2200 2.2GHz OC@3.1GHz down to 24-25C idle and around 45C during Prime95, in an Antec 900 case.
