speakers dont work on new build

I have a new build with speakers from my last computer but they don't work, and i am not sure why if you have any suggestions please let me know. thanks

I have to ask, did you install the Sound Drivers for the Mobo/Sound card?

Enter the bios and make sure integrated sound is enabled.

I did enter the bios but did not see the option for turning on the sound. When I did hook up all the wires into the mobo I hook up the wire that said hd sound or something like that and the same wire but to the middle it had a plug that said ac 97 i did not connect that. I think my pervious comp had ac 97. would this connection make any difference. thanks

Try connecting the AC97 plug to the Mobo.

In the Bios under Integrated Peripherals look for Azalia Codec set it to "enabled" the ATI video card as HD sound for HDMI support and is being detected as a sound card so the default "auto" setting disables the integrated sound

solved. i am not sure but after opening the comp and plugging it in after wards the volume started to work. I plugged it into the gray/white input. thanks for the help.
