Which P45 Motherboard to buy?
Hey Guys!
Recently I Posted this thread [SOLVED] Asus P5Q VS P5N-D Motherboard and it concluded that the p45 was the smarter choice. Now although they suggested the Asus P5Q I'm going to ask this question separately as I only gave them the possible suggestions of the P5Q or the Nforce board. Here's A List Of P45 boards I can afford: Asrock P45TurboTwins2000 http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...ode=MBA-P45TUR Asus P5Q http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...x?code=MBA-P5Q Asus P5QC http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...?code=MBA-P5QC GigaByte EP45-DS3L http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...e=MBG-EP45DS3L GigaByte EP45-UD3LR http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...=MBG-EP45UD3LR Gigabyte EP45-UD3 http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...de=MBG-EP45UD3 Gigabyte EP45-UD3L http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...e=MBG-EP45UD3L GigaByte EP45-DS3 http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...de=MBG-EP45DS3 MSI P45 Platinum http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...de=MBM-P45PLAT FoxConn P45A http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...?code=MBF-P45A The chosen Board will be paired with an Intel E8500/E8400, a 9800GTX+ OC, 4GB DDR2 800 RAM, 1 SATA DVD writer, 1 SATA HDD and a TV tuner PCI card. So what do you think? What should I go for? As usual All replies are greatly appreciated! Regards, Daniel Taylor |

Re: Which P45 Motherboard to buy?
Just about anything in the Asus P5Q series is good. Avoid MSI and Foxconn.

Re: Which P45 Motherboard to buy?
Yes my local shop sells the UD3P http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...e=MBG-EP45UD3P its shamefully over my budget. I have just realised there is yet another Intel chipset appearing in my local shop; the X48 Chipset. Very similar name to what seems to be its bigger brother the X58 for i7 machines. is this similar? does it support Crossfire AND SLI? if so its worth the extra pennies in my eyes, Intel chip+SLI. Here's one of the boards I found http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...ode=MBG-X48DS4.
if its anything like its bigger brother it ma be worth a look? |

Re: Which P45 Motherboard to buy?
That second one looks like a very, very nice board. It only supports ATI X-Fire, not SLI, but I don't think there are any that will have hardware optimization for *both* since they are different technologies. You *may* get SLI working on a board built with X-Fire in mind, but don't count on it. Otherwise it looks like a very, very nice board. I almost wish I had it instead of my P5Q Pro.

Re: Which P45 Motherboard to buy?
does anyone have any experience with the X48 chipset? how does it compare to the P45? your right it is very feature rich and it really is very tempting but i was after the P45 for its stability and that's one thing that a spec-list doesn't tell you :/

Re: Which P45 Motherboard to buy?
The X48 chipset supports Xfire only, Most of the boards listed above are single PCIe slot so they are neither, The X48 is over priced in my opinion.
P5Q or the GA EP45 DS3 stay with DDR2 ram on this build. |

Re: Which P45 Motherboard to buy?
Hey Wrench!
Okey, its still a hard decision though as I really cant decide between Asus and Gigabyte. iv had 1 bad board from both companies, an M2N-SLI from Asus and I cant remember the name of the Gygabyte board but it constantly failed to post for no reason |

Re: Which P45 Motherboard to buy?
I'm going to have to think long and hard as there is 1 more issue, this is that i have a side window, the Gigabyte PCB is Blue whereas all the wrest of the things in there are Black, the Asus P6Q (and all other Asus boards iv seen and owned) is black. But then technically Gigabyte is known for creating More stab;le motherboards and as you'v pointed out have less chance of getting a bad board out-of-the-box.

Re: Which P45 Motherboard to buy?
I use Asus almost exclusively, my DOA's have been few and failures fewer. I use the P5Q for all but budget builds.

Re: Which P45 Motherboard to buy?
I think it will be the P5Q il choose, as I found that Gigabyte's competitor to the P5Q is The EP45-UD3R http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/prod...=MBG-EP45TUD3R wich is ~£110 so although that particular Gigabyte board is allot better looking and has a very fancy-looking heatsink on the northbridge I may have to go with the P5Q. Also the Passive cooling on the P5Q looks like it will be very effective ;D.
