Looking to build a Gaming PC
I've never built my own computer but I'd like to look into it, because it can be cheaper than buying a computer of relatively the same performance. I know my needs are probably not very specific but I would like some advice on this as I'm not quite sure on a lot of things. I'm probably going to sound like an idiot but I don't know much about computers
Budget: Between $800-$1000 Brands: No specific brands Multitasking: Some multitasking but nothing major Gaming: This computer will be built mainly for running WoW as well as I can. It's not a hugely intensive game, but I would like to be able to run it without any lag issues and still be able to surf the web, listen to music and whatever else I may need to do. In the future I may look into other more intensive games but for now it's WoW. Calculations: None Overclocking: Possible, just to try it. Storage: I won't need all that much storage. No pictures or videos. Just some music and game info. Legacy Support: None. Everything will be new. Operating System: Vista is fine. Unless something else would work better. Case: For this I'd like something that has a cool, sleek look to it. Size just depends on what will be put in it. Accessories: Not necessarily Recycled Components: None Monitor: None Stores: None Location: U.S. I've got a few things put together but I'm not sure if they're what I should be using: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814103076 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811103010 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148261 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157161 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829270006 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817709014 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820226063 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103674 If I can cut costs somewhere to make upgrades elsewhere, or just to cut costs, or make upgrades. Thanks Last edited by Bstaff; 06-21-2009 at 01:38 PM. |

Re: Looking to build a decent Gaming PC
(For some reason I cannot edit my post.)
After looking around a little more I found some other stuff that I think I might be interested in. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157135 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227364 (x2) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817170017 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130395 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136113 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811144156 I wanted to know if all of these were compatable with each other, and if this would produce a well rounded gaming pc. |

Re: Looking to build a decent Gaming PC
First of all, you don't want that power supply that has only 25 amps on the +12 rail. It is very low quality. Any pci-e video card needs a BARE MINUMUM of 26 amps on the +12 rail.
Here is a 550 watt power supply that has 41 amps on the +12 rail and is a great power supply. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139004 You might also want to consider moving up to a better video card. The one you have selected is not really that strong if you are in to playing games. I would look at a bare minimum of an 8800gt, if this were my rig. A general comment, if you plan on any type of upgrading in the near future, you might want to consider even a 650 watt corsair power supply so you have room to grow.

Re: Looking to build a decent Gaming PC
So something like
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005 for PSU and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814500079 for graphics? Last edited by Bstaff; 06-21-2009 at 11:15 PM. |

Re: Looking to build a decent Gaming PC
In fact, now that I think about it, here is a great gamer's build for $800. Take a read and see what you think. Might be a good idea to pull some of these components off and I can assure you this would be a good build.

Re: Looking to build a decent Gaming PC
So with the $800 build, I will be able to have a fairly good computer for gaming and have the ability to upgrade it easily? And maybe try a little bit of overclocking?

Re: Looking to build a decent Gaming PC
Definitely go with an Asus or GB Mobo. ASRock are built for Asus but are NOT Asus quality.
PC6400RAM will be fine. The Corsiar rebate comes as a credit card and NOT cash. I'm not familiar with the Zotac cards. Asus-Gigabyte-EVGA-MSI are all good brands for Nvidia chipped graphics cards.

Re: Looking to build a decent Gaming PC
Yes, those graphics card will work with that Mobo and Sapphire makes great ATI chipped cards but be CERTAIN you have a large enough "quality" PSU to run it.
