Double check my 1st build.
Hi Guys,
I am looking into building my own system. I just want to make sure all my parts in this system would function properly and able to communicate (send/receive data) with other parts within the system. Here is my build: AMD Phenom 9750 Quad Core AM2+ 2400MHZ 4MB Cache Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H AM2+,AMD780G,mATX,GBE Lan,1394,HDMI Kingston DDR2 1G PC6400 800 DDR2 RAM(Single Stick Kingston DDR2 1G PC6400 800 DDR2 RAM(Single Stick Samsung 500G SATA II 7200rpm Asus GF9500 512M Magic PCIE2.0 DVI-I HDCP HDMI LG W2242T-BF 22 inch LCD 5ms 8000 : 1 D-Sub DVI-D LG H22NS30 SATA 22X+- Super Multi DVD Rewriter Black with Software Thermaltake M9 Midi Tower Black(with 430W PSU) Microsoft Basic Black Value Pack with Optical Mouse. All this parts are from here. I intend to use XP home edition as its OS. Am I able to use Vista 32bit/64bit in future without any upgrade on its hardware? Is it possible to upgrade to 4G of RAM? Heard 32bit system could only able to pick a total(video card memory+system memory) of 3.5G of memory RAM Video card(Asus GF9500 512M Magic PCIE2.0 DVI-I HDCP HDMI) is out of stock currently. Am I able to use Gigabyte GeForce 9500GT 1G OverClock 650MHz as its substitute? I just not sure about the description of 1G Overclock 650Mhz? Could you please suggest a video card?I dont need excellent video card, something reasonable would be fine as I am just into warcraft and Need for Speed-Carbon ![]() I prefer to have wireless card but just not sure how to select them. I have a wireless ADSL connection available. Please help me select a wireless card for my desktop. ------------- Thanks in advance for your kind help and I appreciate any sort of guide/recommendation or advise on the build. Vick |

Re: Double check my 1st build.
Are you an Aussie? Nice to seeya on here.
Instead of getting two separate RAM sticks I'd get a 2GB DIMM--that's two sticks of 1GB RAM that will work with each other. http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products...id=6&sid=36924 Are you sure you want a quad core processor? They're pretty expensive and very few games or anything else use them. I'm not very familiar with AMD's high-end dual core CPUs so I can't recommend one, but you might want to look into that instead. What's that "Windows Basic Black" thing? Is that your OS? I don't know what that's all about. The Gigabyte video card will work fine, and is in fact better since by overclocking you make the part run faster, thus making it able to render graphics more quickly. Finally, I'd avoid a case that comes with a power supply. The PSUs that come with cases are usually pretty shoddy. Try these instead: Case: http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products...id=2&sid=30183 Power supply: http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products...id=2&sid=23551 And that should do it. Good luck on the build and come back if you have any more questions. |

Re: Double check my 1st build.
Go with a Matched pair of 2X2GB PC6400 RAM. The 32Bit OS will only "se" up to 3.25GB but RAM is cheap now and you will have it if/when you go to a 64Bit OS. Corasir XMX & G.Skill are good brands.

Btw, Windows Basic Black is just a basic keyboard ![]() Thanks everyone for your input. Well, thinking of getting 2x2G RAM as suggested. I thinking of using vista 64bit instead of XP. Do I need to change any parts of the system if I intend to run a vista 64bit? With the case, its just that I like the design...cheap and looking great. Does that gonna lead me in trouble? ![]() Appreciate more comments on the processor and video card? Just a bit suprise, no one mentioned anything about the wireless card

Re: Double check my 1st build.
You want to use 2 sticks of ram to take advantage of the fast dual channel memory mode.
You also want to pick the case and power supply separately the PSU's that come with cases are often out dated or poor quality units, for a PCIe card you need to be up here> http://www.umart.com.au/newindex2.phtml?bid=6 For a wireless card something like this will work fine> http://www.umart.com.au/newindex2.phtml?bid=6 What is the main purpose for the PC if it's gaming for example you would be better served using an Intel dual core or a Phenom II CPU. |

Re: Double check my 1st build.
Yes you can run a 64Bit OS.
For a few dollars more you can get a WD Black series 32MB....they have a 5 yr. warranty and are faster. If you want to go with an Asus Mobo, get the P5Q Pro

Re: Double check my 1st build.
^ yup, it's a very nice board. Only thing that peeves me a little is that the second PCIe x16 slot only runs at x8 bandwidth (ok if you're running anything less than a 4890 or GTX260, but bad for high-end cards like the 4870x2 or GTX285) and putting a double-width GPU in that slot would leave me with just one PCI slot, but otherwise it's a great piece of hardware. First was "DOA", but that was actually my fault. I strongly recommend it.

Re: Double check my 1st build.
The second slot is the also a peave for me on the P5Q. Asus could have left it off and lowered the price. One quality graphics card is all that is needed.
I've used about 40 of them over the last year and a half and I've had 3 bad ones.

Re: Double check my 1st build.
Thanks Wrench97...u made me feel better now. The adapter on the wireless card and the "white slot" on mobo looks as if they wont fit...and that made me worried...
Thanks again. Hope my desktop will come in a good shape... |
