new computer advice
Hi, i am sort of new here and am looking for advice on building a gaming computer. i have some experience with low end computer hardware but have never actually built a computer before and want to make sure all of this will work together, and that i am getting a good deal.
i want a computer that will be able to play newer games at a decent graphics level for the next 3-4 years with minimal upgrading, this is what i am looking at right now... XION Power Real 1000W ATX Power Supply... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&Sku=A406-1116 Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Processor... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...=CP2-DUO-Q6700 EVGA nForce 790i Ultra SLI Motherboard... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&Sku=E145-2037 OCZ Fatal1ty Dual Channel 4096MB PC10666 DDR3 1333MHz Memory (2 x 2048MB)... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&Sku=O261-7612 PNY GeForce GTS 250 Video Card... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...4&Sku=P56-0252 Ultra M923 ATX Black Full Tower Case... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...0&Sku=ULT40125 Ultra X-Wind CPU Fan... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...3&Sku=ULT33193 i had originally found all of these on tiger direct which is why i linked from there but i am aware that some of these components are cheaper on newegg. anyway, my budget is about $1000(US) but i would prefer not to go above 800. i dont really want to have to put more then $150-$200 into it for the next 2 or so years. anyway, tell me what you think |

Re: new computer advice
thanks!
i actually already have a hard drive, disk drive, and a copy of windows (xp professional) though, which gives me an extra $200 or so. are there any particular upgrades you would suggest over the $800 rig? |

Re: new computer advice
You could go for an Antec Nine Hundred case (much better than the Centurion). Hm. Maybe go for a Radeon HD4890 or GeForce GTX275 over the 9800GTX+, though you don't have to. 750 watt PSU instead of the 650 (for the bigger GPU) but stay with Corsair or Antec or Seasonic. If you have any money left, go for the E8500 or possibly Q6600 or Q9550 instead of the E8400. I recommend the E8500 for better performance and overclockability now (and cheaper), and one of the quad-cores for a more future-proof rig. Also look into getting a Zalman 9500A or 9700 (if you plan to overclock) or similar aftermarket heatsink.
Pick and choose from those upgrades to match your budget. ;) |

Re: new computer advice
For a gamer go with a Dual Core CPU (E8400-E8500).
Drop the EVGA Mobo. Intel CPU's prefer Intel chipsets. Good match for the Intels; ASUS P5Q $111 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131295 Go with 2X2 GB of PC6400 RAM. Use Newegg, Tiger Direct has a habit of substituting parts and their customer service lacks.
