Re: Tips for building a computer
Touch the metal frame of the case first and don't build on a carpet.
Static charge is usually not the cause of failed motherboards. Last edited by wrench97; 05-28-2009 at 03:27 PM. |

Re: Tips for building a computer
Well I assumed it was the motherboard frying, I'll briefly explain the problem I've come across recently. Basically on Wednesday I bought some new computer parts a new CPU and some new RAM I switched CPU and installed the new RAM, came to turn my computer on, and nothing on my monitor, not even the BIOS loading screens. So first I thought it was the RAM not inserted correctly, so I double checked that it was fine, then changed the CPU back to the old one, tried again still didn't work. So I popped the new one back in, long behold still didn't work, I then noticed the fan on my graphics card had stopped spinning, so I bought a new graphics card from a local store, it still didn't work. The only thing I could think of now, is the motherboard and somehow static charge had stopped the PCI-X ports from working, so i bought a new one which will arrive tomorrow, so hopefully from there I will be good to go, any inputs on what caused it ?

Re: Tips for building a computer
Is this psu one that you were already using, so you know it works?
Try clearing the cmos, and use only one stick of ram. In the slot closest to the cpu.

Re: Tips for building a computer
I have tried several things, I'll make a list of things I have tried:
1.) Using only one stick of RAM in the slot nearest to the CPU 2.) Taking everything out, cleaning the case, all the parts etc putting them back in. 3.) Clearing the CMOS 4.) Changing the Video Card. and nothing seems to work, still nothing on the screen |

Re: Tips for building a computer
Can you test the power supply in another computer, or borrow one from a friend to test?
If you have a diagnostic case speaker and try booting with no ram you should get continuous beeps for an error. Not getting that points to a bad motherboard, but it sounds like you are getting no power at all to the board. Not signs of fan life or lit led's or anything?

Re: Tips for building a computer
The MB light turns on, the CPU fan spins, my case fan spins, the hard drive spins and I can hear it loading the information. The only thing that doesn't work is the graphics card
