Ok my video card recently crapped out on me.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150229 When I start my computer I get a long beep and three short beeps indicating a video card problem. After reseating 60 odd times to no avail I am guessing that it is no longer functional. So, in order for me to do a good video upgrade I am going to have to get a new motherboard it looks like. Here is my current mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131096 It does not support pci-e 16 2.0 cards which seems to be what all the new good cards are. I am willing to drop around $200-$250 to upgrade my mobo and vid card. Last time I wanted to just upgrade my video card I ended up buying a new vid card, processor, ram, and hard drive (basically a whole new rig) for compatibility reasons. I do not want to do that again. Here is the motherboard I am considering: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128387 Will my old processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103759 My old RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231098 And my old hard drive all work with the new motherboard? Here are the video cards I am considering: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130339 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161268 Thanks a lot for your help!! |

Re: New Mobo and Vid card. Everything else compatible?
Hmm so it appears that a pci-e mobo will support a pci-e 2.0 vid card. Will there be a performance drop in either of the two video cards I mentioned if I jsut use my current mobo?

Re: New Mobo and Vid card. Everything else compatible?
You shouldn't need a new motherboard,pci-e 2.0 cards are backwards compatible. As long as you have enough of a power supply, just get a new video card.
