That hot place suffers a sudden cold snap...
Yes, Satan bought a snowblower! I FINALLY got my build done....a year later!
Final Specs: MoBo: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P CPU: E8500@3.86Ghz (having cooling issues so can't push to 4Ghz..yet) CPU cooler: Zalman CNPS9500A RAM: 2Gb Corsair Dominator PC8500 PSU: PC Power and Cooling 750w HDD: 2x Seagate Barracuda 500Gb (got a good deal over WD....I haven't noticed a difference.) GPU: Diamond HD4890 (haven't OC'd yet...haven't needed to!) Optical: One LG Lightscribe Case: Prowler Monitor: LG 22" 2ms 1920x1080 Keyboard: Saitek Eclipse II OS: Windows Xp til W7 64bit comes out (more RAM will be added then) --------------------------------------------------- Still need to buy a good TV Tuner card...but that's Ok. That HD4890, while a very nice card, doubles as a space heater for my apartment. I kid you not. I may well end up getting watercooling just because of that bloody thing. My case temps run high and now I can't get my E8500 OC'd to where I want because the temps get scary even with the Zalman! But it eats everything I throw at it and renders beautifully. Odd bit is, idle temps are very high, but fully loaded the temp only rises about 5c. Wierd. The bright side? Build posted first time on the bench, and has given me no issues over the 3 weeks I've had it running. DID get one BSOD last week due to video driver, re-installed and all is now happy. Many hundreds of thanks to the folks and crew on this site. You gave nothing but outstanding advice, insights, and opinions. And put up with my many false-starts! /salute Eric |

Re: That hot place suffers a sudden cold snap...
I just wanted to add: I have learned so much from this site in the past year that I now have people asking me to repair/build computers for them. And you know what? I can and do. And if I get stuck? I post here and someone helps.
Not just a support site, one helluva learning tool! What more could I say? Eric |

Re: That hot place suffers a sudden cold snap...
Hey, glad you are up and running. That is a great feeling to get your first build up and performing like that.
Even the best thermal paste (artic silver, I hope) job some times needs to be redone because of a little bubble in there or an adhesion area that does not make good contact, so if you are having a heat issue, might be worth a redo on that paste. I am also assuming you have both a decent exhaust fan 120mm minimum for the back of your case and a decent 120mm or larger intake fan for the front of your case. If it is extremely hot, then add a side fan blowing on the CPU. Again, congrats on the build and thanks for sharing your story. Let us know if we can assist you further.

Yes...I agree...I too came here looking for advice...to build my own computer.
And I too learned a lot...and am still learning. This site is excellent for those who come here with the right attitude...My only regret is...I wish I could support this site more than I have been able to. |
