Need suggestions on these parts
Building a computer for the first time. Plan to spend about $2000 to build a higher end machine with room for expansion down the road. Here are the parts I have chosen and priced out. Curious if you see any problems with this build and if there are parts you would recommend replacing. Plan on using it a decent amount for gaming and watching movies/videos. Any other questions just ask, open to all suggestions.
(All parts purchased through NewEgg, some are combo deals) Motherboard and Processor combo - $563.98 MB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188039 Pro: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115202 Video Card and PSU combo - $579.98 VC: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143170 PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139007 Case and OS combo - $320.98 Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133021 OS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116493 Hard Drive - $89.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136317 Memory - $156 x 2 = $312.00 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145224 Blu-Ray Burner = $199.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827136137 I already have a mouse/keyboard and the following is my monitor I just bought last week: Monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001278 If you have any suggestions on additions/deletions let me know. The total price of everything comes to about $2,066.92 which is about my budget. I could go a little higher if it would be beneficial, or even lower if a part I picked out is overpriced. Mainly concerned that the build will be stable and everything will play nicely. Appreciate any feedback. |

Re: Need suggestions on these parts
Thats pretty damn nice. Although, I would knock down that RAM. there is no point in getting that much. 6GB (Because of the interlace thing) is heaps for gaming. I only have 8 GB because I do a bit of 3D modelling and HEAPS of Photoshop work, along with a bit of video editing.

I have an i7 for my new work computer, (which sadly I am not allowed to take home) as do a number of my colleagues, and they have a very noticeable difference over the 9650. You can feel the speed, its like saying there is no difference between a Single core and a dual core. Also, I have never had a problem, nor has anyone I know, with them being "Buggy".I say, if you can afford it, go for it.

Re: Need suggestions on these parts
he has the budget and willingness to spend it, I say go for it.
as for such a big diff in speed, I have built two I7-920 systems witn the last two weeks and dont see anything in speed increase like you speak of! in fact; the owner of the second one I built asked me to run it for a week as a shop demo to make positively sure no bugs or issues would crop up as he lives so remotely from our location. Customers who sat at the E8500 sytem wanted to know why the 920 was priced at $450.00 more when they could barely tell them apart. The 920 has the 285GTX video card the E8500 has the ATI 4870

Re: Need suggestions on these parts
Thanks everyone for the feedback so far. I'm still weighing the options on which way to go. I think the i7 is still my lean but i'm looking more into it now. I was unaware of the bugs or lack of improvement in speed until now. I mainly want to have a machine, mobo/psu that is capable of upgrades down the road as well.

Re: Need suggestions on these parts
down the road for computers is 3 years in my experience. After that period of time the user / owner is suffering from lack of performance for the applications of current times.
I would say either system will suit your needs, but you must remember the I7 is a new release product of less than one year; its first 6 months was rather unaffordable with DDR3 memory kits at $500.00 and $600.00 then. Now they are more realistic but the I7 is still not a "mature" platform yet. It really depends on your software intentions; do the applications you run support quad core ? I believe the I7 is actually considered to be 8 cores, however other than photoshop and autocad , I havent seen any other applications that can really push a quad core even ?
