My friend wants me to help build a basic computer. He wants it for some basic internet, IM, burning dvds, managing ipod, typing up papers doing powerpoints etc. He will no be playing any games. I was thinking the following for it. (I am going to pick a video card for him just incase he does play games most like a geforce 9600/9800).

CPU: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...897&CatId=2396
Mobo: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...103&CatId=1533
PSU: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...208&CatId=1078
RAM: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...049&CatId=2264
Video Card: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...332&CatId=3585
Hard Drive: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...334&CatId=2458
Case: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&Sku=C283-1138
Monitor: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...2789&CatId=170
DVD Burner: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...05935&CatId=88
Wireless Card: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...640&CatId=2688
Printer: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&Sku=H24-30002
OS: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...6812&CatId=306
Keyboard/Mouse: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...205&CatId=1482

I think this will easily meet everything. Give your input please.

This may be a little more than basic but he wants it to be good for 3 or so years before he needs to upgrade.

Re: Building a basic computer for my friend

If your going to put a video card in it bump the power supply up to a 550w and take a look at the ATI4650 or 4670 cards nice mainstream cards.
