Currently i have an older Compaq loaded with xp pro and now i have a alien ware tower with Linux. i want to take the xp hard drive and stick inside the alien ware tower along side the Linux hdd. but have know idea how to set it up nor do i know how to adjust my drivers for xp to accept the new motherboard. i also never used Linux but i want to keep both and learn. I have built many of windows towers in the past but never set up more than one bootable hdd.

Re: Dual Boot Os Help

if xp pro came with the compaq or was oem, then it cannot ever be installed on another computer.

If it is a legal copy that can be moved to another computer, you will have to do a repair install using the winxp cd on the drive.

Re: Dual Boot Os Help

if you copy of win XP is a retail version and not supplied by an OEM system builder ........... like Dell, gateway, HP, compaq etc etc etc then you can transfer it to the alienware ............. but you cant run it on both machines at the same time ....... one or the other is what the EULA permits on retail xp
