Question [SOLVED] CD-ROM Problem

I have a Prosys - model 2005, intel pent 4, 3.0 ghz with 1 gb ram. It worked for abot 3-4 years but now when I insert a cd, in boot mode or any other time, the screen goes blank and it tries to reboot continously. When this is happening, if I eject the cd it loads Win xp pro no problem. I changed the cd-rom twice and the hddrive once, also both cables, still no change. Device manager says there are no problems. Also sometimes when on the net it will completely lock up. I have no disk drive and only the Prosys recovery media cd. Could it be a virus or a hardware problem. Checked for viruses through the net and came up with nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

check in the bios boot order to be sure the cd-rom drive is set to FIRST boot device

the boot drive should be second boot device

if that doesnt help ............. try clearing cmos ...........(pull the power cord from the computers power supply >>>>>very important step........... then remove the cmos battery for 15 minutes

after which ................ restore those things and boot into bios ........... you will need to reset your data and time and boot order

keep us posted with your progress

also ........... try deleting it from with the device manager then re-boot and see if that wakes it up ?

Re: CD-ROM Problem

Checked the boot order and was ok, unplugged power cord from the back and removed cmos battery for over 15 minutes and then reversed the process. Went into bios and set everything and it still does the same thing. Deleted driver and restarted computer, it just reloaded the driver and acted the same as before. If I start the computer and hold delete it will go into the recovery mode with no cd in the drive, so I was trying to reformat the hddrive and see if that would fix the problem, it goes part way through the loading files and then restarts. The display is, Boot from cd:, press f10 to start recovery and NTLDR missing press ctrl+alt+del to restart the computer and I have to shut it off as it just goes back to the same display. Tried a few more times to reinstall the recovery program, but with no sucess.
I have a floppy drive that I could plug in and see if I could boot from it, Does it need to be installed in the machine or could I just set it at the side of the case and plug in the cords ? Have boot Windows 98SE on floppy.

Re: CD-ROM Problem

I tried the bootable ISO cd with no sucess. The video card in a onboard unit that I do not know much about, cpu - intel pent 4 - 3.06 ghz, 1 meg of ram. Power supply - F S Group 300 watt. The CPU vcore is 1.40,1.50,1.60,3.3,3.26,5.0,5.15 and Battery 3.08. I only turn on this computer to try to fix the problem so the (at present) temps are - sys 89f, cpu 87f, after 10 min run time. I also am leaning toward a defective motherboard. After I removed the cmos battery and started the computer the screen showed memory ok but when it came to the cmos check sum it said there was a error and defaults were loaded.

Re: CD-ROM Problem

give the cd-rom drive a different power cable .................. 300 watts is not enough power for that system .......... a 3-4 year old 300 watt has got to be coughing big time by now !!

Re: CD-ROM Problem

The Power supply - 3.3v-20a,5.0v-20a,12.0v(1)8a,12.0v(2)14a, think I need a new one. Swapped the power cords and still no change. Should the board and PS be changed at the same time or just try the Power supply ?

Re: CD-ROM Problem

just the power supply at first ................ if you are buying from a box store .............. look for the antec 550 watt or 650 watt ............... avoid the cheap house brands ........... they are horrible !
